Autodoc for parts

Post by rutter123 »

1st time I've used them
Air con cooling fan failed on my 65 Boxer (twin fan unit in plastic shroud)
No pattern part available in UK, dealer part only £713 from Peugeot, I did question this price after I got back on my stool...
Anyway autodoc matched the original Peugeot part number with an new identical unit for £144 delivered 5 days later from Germany

Well done them.

Don't know if they do bx bits but could be worth a look.

I’m looking for new track rod ends on auto doc and there are numerous brands.
Any worth avoiding or going for in particular, or are they much of a muchness…?

Autodoc and Mister Auto (Stellantis/PSA-owned) carry a surprisingly large number of BX parts, often with a wide choice of brands and prices. BOLK is an own-label of M.A., but mainstream brands there as well, including Purflux, Valeo, SKF, etc.

At least Moog has own factory, moosehead inside a triangle as a logo. I'm not sure if they still produce everything themselves or buy chinacrap & rebadge like 75% of those listed. I would think SKF has some kind of quality control, maybe ABS also. Optimal has long warranties in their stuff but I have no idea if it works when self-installed, not much experience from them hence the price...

I'm becoming more and more a fan of AutoDoc, had another delivery of mostly BX parts yesterday.

My thoughts on parts to avoid, and some useful tips are here;

Be very careful with TYC headlights. I have experience of these, having bought a new pair for our RAV4.2 a while ago.
Cosmetically, they looked the business, but the beam pattern and light spread was beyond awful. I ended up giving them away.

Good advice to be watchful about brands and quality. I always avoid the very cheapest stuff, particularly with labels never heard of.

BX parts surprisingly plentiful.

I get the impression that the TYC headlights only come in LHD beam pattern, which won't help the beam pattern. They even said they were for RHD on the website when I ordered a set for the BX. But as I only actually want the reflector, the TYC are perfectly suited to my needs. They would have been better if I hadn't dropped the Cibbie glass off the original light and smashed it to bits :(
