BX Break TZS renovation

Post by Rickyalbe »

Hello ! I would like to share with you some photos of the restoration I have just started on my BX break.
First thing, the interior! they were dirty to say the least... I decided to dismantle all the interiors and clean them with steam and Marseille soap. The result was wonderful!

I then started to dismantle the bumpers, because they need some repairs and will be repainted. In the meantime, I cleaned the engine compartment. I also found some 14 inch 6" 4x108 alloy wheels, I'll fix them and I want to try to mount them (removing the Audi logo :D)

Coming along nicely. Will the 6" wide wheels fit under the rear arch with tyres fitted?

It looks as though you have quite a good car to start with. It should restore nicely. Looking forward to seeing progress

Let's say it will be a test.. If I'm not mistaken the 16V models are fitted with 6J rims.. I hope I don't have any problems on the Break! :D

Hello everyone! Finally I remove the head, because I had a leak.. And the photo attached confirmed the problem : gasket broken on 1st cilynder, but perhaps even worse and unexpected, the cylinder is corroded!!
Now.. I'll have to remove the whole engine to rebuilt it.
Rim question: with ET 33 the tyre scrape slightly against the body frame, I'm now fitting 20mm spacers.

About the engine, maybe I found a Peugeot 205 gti engine..

Some good progress it seems, but a shame about the corrosion - have you given it a good clean to see what you're left with?

I/m sure you've checked, but go careful with 205 GTI heads. Unless it's from the lower power engines the valves will be bigger and the cam higher duration/lift etc, you'll need to get the carb re-jetted if you go for the higher power head to cope with increased air flow. Good news for power and torque though!

This website is a great resource for the different heads used in XU9's

Thank you for the info, it's very interesting.. Probably I can buy a d6d head, complete of her camshaft.
Of course, I should change the carburetion..
Has anyone ever tried to mount the solex 40 ahdde with the dedicated intake pipe?
I'm afraid it might interfere with the HP Pump or alternator. :?

In the meantime, I started to reassemble the interior, which I had previously cleaned... It feels like being new!

You'll need to relocate the alternator slightly lower down, the BX Sport had to do the same and so did the GTI 16v but I don't know if they share brackets etc, IIRC the other XU's (GTI 8v and single carb models) have an intake manifold that allows the higher alternator location. You might be lucky and find a complete 205 GTI head and carb set-up that someone is selling, I have seen a few twin carb set-ups on the 205 GTI forums which would be ideal as it should be correctly jetted and ready to go!

On another note, I'm planning on putting a load of sound deadening/insulation in my GT at some point - an ideal time for you to do the same now with most of the interior out! Interior looks gorgeous btw, as you say - almost new!

Re: Colour code for black side moldings - BX Break

Post by Rickyalbe »

Hi everybody!
Just some update: the bodyworks looks finished, bumpers painted, rear tailgate painted and repaired, and now I've started to put some layer of butyl+aluminum on the doors.
I hope to improve the sound attenuation and music quality
Next step, the baggage plastic panel...

On the baggage panel I put the same material, adding a felt+tar panel. Since I'm going to restore the audio system, those speakers are fixed to a miserable plastic panel that vibrates everything, I hope with this additional weight it can improve a little.
It's look more... solid ehehe :D

I also found these (here in Italy) front lights.
After much thought, I've decided to paint it on the same color of the lateral trim..
