Another problem I have come across is the insulation material falling down and jamming the throttle cable/pedal open.

Right-oh, just had a `proper` look at it for the first time. I now don`t believe there`s a problem with the pedal, it seems to be the cable not returning and has now sort of stuck at the engine end. It appears that the cable is not returning, as if a spring or something is missing?
Also the cable is very frayed at the engine end, any ideas please?

There should be 2 visible return springs - one round the cable at the engine end and the other a spring wound round the throttle lever at the pump.

A frayed cable will stick. Why not disconnect the cable from the pump and see if it behaves normally - ie idles properly? If it does then the cable is the problem.

I`ll try that, thanks. Where the cable goes through the bulkhead it seems a bit loose and gappy, if that makes sense, as if something is missing?

Should be a tapered rubber bung round the cable where it goes through the bulkhead. Bung should be pushed into the bulkhead.

I think you'll find that GSF sell a kit - which is what it sounds like - and has to be made up. Others including Quinton Hazell sell the thing made up for not much more which may make kife easier.

Sleepy - maybe on a BX - but on a ZX the bung at the pedal end has to be cut - which I only found out when the pedal wouldn't move properly - and - well those little wings on the pedal connection - are fun to get out without damage!

In fact if you get the GSF kit you can replace the inner cable only. I replaced both as the inner looked perfect and we thought the pedal was sticking - leading to episodes of 'Hidden Power' which is unexpected from a ZX 1.9D. As the inner was perfect I thought the outer might be grooved internally and pinching the inner (I'd had fun finding that problem on my MIG welder) - so replaced both.

Real problem was the mat getting caught in the pedal!

Me being me I haven`t had the chance to do anything with it yet. If I go to Europarts or a Citroen dealer can I buy a complete cable kit with everything I need-i.e any springs etc required?
Thanks,

I seem to remember the Quinton Hazell one I fitted on my BX was fully made up and just popped in.

As you know QH have many stockists throught the country.

They also have a load of catalogues which are downloadable.
