Moving on from a BX
Without Volvo I would never have had a BX, had a petrol 740 turbo long time ago just before moving onto BX, and for exactly the same reason got rid as I couldn't afford to run it, a very well built car, best i've had for riding potholes, but not the best for handling, my word it drank a lot!

Christ they were thirsty. I`d previously owned a 740 2.0 manual which was reasonable but a later 2.3 auto and a 940 2.0 turbo manual were frightening.
In fact the 940 was so frightening it used more petrol going one way to Donacster than the 4.0 diesel recovery truck I bought did coming back with the Volvo on the back of it
Fair play though the 740 and 940 to drive are up there in Jag and Merc territory, wonderfully smooth and p*ss easy to drive.

I had the 945 2.0 Turbo manual Wentworth estate and strangely it returned about 35 mpg if it wasn't caned which is better than the BX Gti.cavmad wrote:Christ they were thirsty. I did however have to have the turbo replaced (expensive) and while this was on the way out, the mpg dropped to sh*t.

My BX is my Life!!!
Guys,
I don't know what i'd do without my BX. I don't think that it would ever be possible.
I've grown up with BX's since I was born. Our very first BX at my family's Citroën dealership arrived only 8 months before I was born and I think that you could call it love at first sight.
Growing up in a busy workshop full of CX's, D's, GS' and the newer Xantia, I grew an ever increasing appreciation for the BX. It was not only the looks, but the fact that most things are simply not a real problem on a BX. Mechanically they don't scare me and in comparison to other models, this car deserves a lot of credit.
They're light, relatively easy to fix and if treated right go forever.
I truly have a place in my heart for the BX. This has been emphasised in the past few days when my BX wagon was driven into head on by a little Chinese lady, causing a bit of damage. I am ok and the BX kept me safe. I didn't suffer shock or anything and hopped out of her to check the damage and drive her to the side of the road. I have since had the insurance company assess it and I have straightened a few things out and it's now perfectly driveable (without a bumper). The insurance company will most likely write her off and i'll buy back the wreck and fix her up. Will be better than new in the end.
I don't mind the Xantia and it has grown on me, especially the series2. I can't see myself in a Xantia though. Nice car but not for me.
To be honest I can't see myself in any other car.
The newer Citroën's don't do it for me and the older ones are off the cards completely.
It's funny, to me the BX will never get old. I mean time is marching on, but to me the BX is still a young car and always will be.
I strive to keep my three BX's like new and my blue GTI is. The GTI was my first car and I plan to keep it until the day I die.
So there you have it chaps, I'd rather not have a car unless it's a BX. That's where my heart lies and where it will stay.

I agree entirley.
I think if I wasn't allowed to own a BX by law then I'd have a '71 Buick Rivirera Boat tail but I'd still keep the BX's under lock and key in the dirty mag drawer!!!
Cheers

Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!
Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

I'm not getting rid of the BX, more just looking for another toy to play with over winter.MULLEY wrote:So Ian, what type of car r u thinking of getting?
I was looking at a Sierra XR4x4 2.9 Estate that my mates dad owned in the early nineties, its somewhat more battered now though so i've decided not to go for that one.
I'm looking for a Fiat Panda 4x4 now.... Go on.... Get the laughs over but as you all know i've got a 4x4 fettish!
