I had one, one of the best cars I've ever had, went like hell, awesome motorway cruiser and not too bad on the juice. I really, really miss that car and will have another one.

Infact, maybe sooner than I'd anticipated!

thanuttiscotsman wrote:but its the same engine in a different body?? just minus the hydraulic problems! :D
It's not the engine that makes the car mate, Xanty's are uniformly awful, with the rare exception of a GOOD Activa or V6 8) , ZX's are all crap (ok the 1.9i non-cat Volcane aint too bad) but it's still just a pug in a shell suit.

If it dont go up and down, it aint a real car!

Kitch `you-de-man`, my friend, you-de-man! Happily that`s a mere 15 miles from here according to eBay (which means in the real world it`s probably double that) and I shall be persuing that like a persue-y thing.
Cheers mucker!

Contact made with owner, very friendly bloke and this was his 3rd BX. Sounds very like the octopus, possibly it`s `fixable` with a piece of pipe and also mentioned rear struts `creaked a bit`.
Battery also duff, won`t last more than roughly 2 days if car not used before it gives up. Oh, he says driver`s window has to be helped back up as it doesn`t come back straight. Mentions he thinks it`s a common fault though not one I was aware of. The detective in me wonders whether the driver`s door strip that`s missing may be a light impact at some point hence window not coming back up properly?
I have made an offer (which he refused!) but he`s going to keep in touch. He seems a very genuine seller, reluctant to let it go but absurdly high repair costs for the octopus means it`s not viable for him to pay to have done.

Octopus and rear arm bearings by the sound of things. The window problem will most likely be the metal runners on the bottom of the glass has rotted away on a car of this age, the n/s one had gone on my estate.
Not a bad fix with a new ally runner or simply replacement glass.

The rest of the car looked quite good in the photos, was it any good.

Sounds `reasonable` Ken though reading between the lines it`s possibly led a (not very) charmed life.
I asked about all the usual faults and when I mentioned creaking struts he recalled the `creaks from the rear` which raised my suspicions about the bearings.
All in all I think I made what was a fair offer considering the wallet-lightning potential of the faults, the fact Christmas is around the corner (bad time of year to sell cars) and what it`s worth after all the jobs that need doing are sorted Vs what it`d cost to buy a good one in the first place.

All in all, I think this'd be a better buy. :)

Hhmm, "some welding repairs to the front subframe" required for MOT.....

If you end up getting it Billy I have a couple of subframes in stock...!

Looks tidy otherwise, shame there's no piccies of the back end though....

Cheers
