Unless you have the special machine for fitting cable ties - and it tightens them very tight - then it will not seal.

Jubilee clips are not expensive.

Try your cable tie and see whet happens - its working with the hose off so it isn't going to do any harm. On a petrol car it could interfere with the mixture - depends on the vent circuit - some loose loads of power (like a Triumph Stag) if the vents leak.

Ok, will try a new jubille clip, just got to work out how to cut the old one off if either (a) cant access the head or (b) as was suggested it might be the original citroen headless tie......

So little room to get my fat hands down there
