Frontlines have sorted out my battery clamps & put some new one's on, so that'll hopefully avoid any future issues with arcing, also fitted back the pedal box panel that made the car very noisey, some £58 later though. Let's hope i don't need anything else doing this month

Got to sort out an alternator as well, just incase the heap that was fitted doesnt last that long. Is it the comutator that gets buggered on these? anyone know how to change one on an alternator & whereabouts can i buy one for a cheap price?

I have got many alternators working again simply by cleaning the face of the brushes and the armature with fine emery tape.

It's usually the brushes that wear down

Whatever you do,don't disturb the main hydraulic feed pipe when replacing the alternator.That's what led to the demise of my Burgundy beauty

Latest tank of fuel managed to last 717 miles, this meant an average of over 53mpg, not bad for a car where the engine is revving away, if only these cars had a nice long 6th gear, now that would surely mean 60+ on a run

Off the back of the post about Shell fuel save fuel, i've filled up today with it, so i'll report back on my findings to see if it makes one iota of difference.

I saved 1 litre in fuel usage

Not great, but better than nowt.

Sunday i did another oil change along with filter, also hoovered out the air filter element & box. Mileage currently at 120010, horn stopped working about 2wks ago, so need to get that sorted....

Probably all that lovely italian metalwork either rusted away or fell off

Looking at that vid reminded of when I used to work in Bristol - I'm glad I don't see traffic like that every day now! The biggest problem I get is occasionally being stuck behind a tractor onthe A38

Rather sadly I'm going to find a nice spot to position my niece with a video camera so she can catch the bx cornering nicely.

HI,

I was looking for the thread and couldn't find it until now

The Alfa went early in the year, there are no lies they cost a FORTUNE to keep on the road. It was a low mileage '04 156 JTD M-Jet Lusso that was baby'd on a daily basis for nearly 3 year's - it still broke well beyond my wallet

Anyway, I took the plunge and got a full bike licence and bought a Japanese bike - a Suzuki GS500f. As you can see it slip's through the traffic with little effort, cost button's to run and when you need to has a decent turn of speed.

We have a Grand Scenic at home for the family so it work's out ok...

Time to get a BX alfaman

Last tankful of sainsbury's finest gave me 54mpg

I'm pretty sure i wasn't even driving that economically, perhaps with 120k on the clock the car is finally run in
