I don't think it was your fault Ken, i'm pretty sure i remember you tightening it up, so no harm done anyways

Just glad it was spotted.

I'm surprised you didnt guess Doc with all your years of experience

well, I was going for either the HP pump pulley, or the cam sprocket.
But ya know, I thought, ooh, I need me one of these discs! Turns out, I have one already..

Thanks to Shaune for fitting a new driveshaft cv boot on psgr side, i think it was the outer one (nearest the wheel). Noticed that the psgr rear strut was dripping lhm out, so that will need replacing asap

Do you do most of the work yourself or will you use frontlines?

Good question, i do some work myself on stuff that i'm confident with. Otherwise i try & get a couple of great lads up north to help me out at their convenience, not just because i'm saving a few quid, i just don't trust garages with some of the jobs as they are specific to hydraulic cars of which they probably won't know.

I've used frontlines a few times & my impression after having spoken to the owner Pete is that he knows all about them & so can sort them out easily. Price wise they are more expensive than the other cheapo garage that i often use, but if its a job that the cheapo garage can do i'll give them the work, otherwise it'll go to frontlines. I do prefer to give the work to mates though as its cash in hand for them & its always a good opportunity to learn new things & its just great to catch up & talk about citroens etc....

Thinking of getting one?

TBH, I want rid of my Audi, it's pointless having a car when I prefer the bike. However, not much is selling so a swap might be better for someone else, in this case I am open to a diesel [for biofuel purposes], and I would happily run around in a BX

Visited Shaune today & he kindly fitted a replacement rear cylinder. The old one is well stuffed, i couldn't believe how much crap there was in the shield around the cylinder once it was removed, a couple of handfulls. No wonder the aluminium on the cylinder is wet & just turns porous & into swiss cheesel. Once i've cleaned it up a bit i'll post a piccy of cheesy cylinder.

I also bought some cylinder pins, you can only buy them in a pkt of 5 from citroen for £9, oh well, i guess with 2 cars i'd need at lease 4.

Compared the xantia cylinder that i bought new & the stub is more akward to sort out than i'd 1st thought, i'd presumed it was just the height that needed filing down, but its the actual circumference, so i'll find a local engineering shop to get them to get it to the correct size. The piston & rubber boot are also the wrong size, so the old struts parts would need to be taken across to be re-used.

Once everything fitted & Shaune managed to remove the hydraulic pipe from the cylinder without damaging/breaking we both thought great news, erm no

Turns out there was a secondary leak on the rear psgr side brake pipe, its pissing out, unbelievable. Couldn't be repaired either as its in the coiled section. I've actually got a spare, but it was at home, bleeding typical. So had to drive back & try not using the brake pedal. Tried using the handbrake, it worked surprising well, even at speed

I've had the car off the road for a week already, so i'm getting a bit peed off at the mo, think i'll contact frontlines for a quote. They can also have a look into the quite loud clonking sound at the front of the car which can be made to occur by pusing down on the front bumper. Shaune had a quick look but couldnt work out where it was coming from, best found on a 4 post unfortunately.

And the good luck continued when i noticed a nail in the rear driver side tyre

So bit of a mixed day, but heyho this is BX ownership.....

I know I've mentioned this before, but it might be worth drilling a small hole in the shield to allow water to drain out. I did this when replacing my cylinders about 6 years ago, and there has been no build up of water/mud since. The old ones had a 'tide mark' of corrosion on them!

It was after 6pm Ken, didn't think you'd fancy a nightime drive over & Shaune had to get off anyways, but cheers though.

Alfaman, yup, nail is in the winter tyre

I'll make a decision on whether its worth getting it repaired or not, they are worn so i'll have a think on that. It's all part of the bx experience, you're feeling left out aren't you

Got a quote for fitting the rear flexi pipe, computer & bank balance say's no, hopefully Shaune is going to sort something out, i'll owe him big style, cheers mate

Forgot to mention that Shaune kindly sorted out my stereo for me

At last, i now have 4 working speakers & all the cabling has been tidied up & the stereo now is flush in its correct place, hurrah.

Yes.

Mat - don't suppose you've got a piccy of the hole so that i can see how large you made it & whereabouts on the sheild it is? If not, can you remember the details? This may be one of those things that everyone needs to start doing to avoid rear cylinders going pop seeing as they are NLA.
