Shaun came round on Saturday & cut out the rot in the boot floor & exhaust hanger section & welded in some new tin, dodged one massive cloudburst which lasted approx 20mins & then it was dry & sunny Cheers matey

Went to do the front pads today & after checking decided not to bother as there was still plenty of meat on the pads, just gave the calipers a quick clean up & knocked all the rust off the actual discs. The driver side caliper for some reason had the rubber dust cap on the piston dislodged, so i gave that area a clean & put a load of coppaslip onto it. I'll need to remove the caliper though & re-fit the rubber dust sheild/cap. Also spotted some cracks on the strut return pipe, so that'll need doing soonish. Had a look at the droplink & even though the suspension was on high, i could barely detect any movement in it, does it need to be unloaded to check? Either way i cleaned up the threads & nut & sprayed with WD40 so that i could tackle it next weekend. It does chatter quite a bit these days

drop links can feel fine and yet be totally knackered. They dont seem to last very long these days sadly, and I'm sure thats down to manufacture rather than the condition of the roads..

Exhaust has come away from the middle silencer again, aaaaarghhh, now sounds like a tractor on heat

Today, did the following:

Re-fitted the rear exhaust box.
Driver side droplink.
Driver side strut return pipe.
External extra filter to the lhm tank, old one was very dirty inside, so its been doing its job.

Exhaust is still on, bonus.
Driver side droplink made not one iota's difference to the bloody noise that is coming from the front of the driver side wheel area??? Good job i kept the old droplink, i suspect there's nothing wrong with it, i might re-fit.

When i went to Lincs on Sat, there was a terrible groaning sound emanating from the front driver side wheel area. I was thinking initially that it was a driveshaft or possible wheel bearing. Then on my return journey i had a brainwave, lets check the wheel bolts that i clearly tightened up when i did the above jobs, ooooooops, they were loose. Noise has now gone away, what a prat, haha......

Last tankful i averaged approx 56mpg Who needs these modern cars, hah....

just managed 31 from the valver, but plan to fix the weeping injector on the diesel before retuning it to the road, that should get it back up to a comparable figure to yours I hope

I regularly get 30–31mpg from my 16V too – though on one occasion I got it down to about 23mpg and on a gentle day of the Challenge this year got 38… The 4x4 is not as good, though generally in the high 20s.

Paul296 came round today & got rid of the flaking paint & slight rust that has appeared above the side strip on the psgr rear quarter. Took the side strip off as it was in the way, a little filler to get the smooth finish & then white primer put on, looks soo much better than it did before & it hasn't even been painted yet. Cheers Paul. Managed to remove the side indicators today, only to find out that i'd been sold the wrong bulb, however, as luck would have it, i'd bought some bulbs last year for the front dipped which turned out to be the wrong type, but they were an exact match for the side indicators, bonus. We'll have to see if the blue light in the orange lens gives off a strange colour at night or not, but at least they work & of course i did both sides so that i'd have matching bulbs

I can get 19 mpg out of the valver whilst towing the caravan!!

These were going in my blog - but you can 'av 'em. Initially the bubbling on the rear wing looked like ruptured underseal that was allowing the wing to corrode from the inside. Luckily, a bit of over enthusiastic power washing that stripped the bubbly paint ( ) proved that that wasn't the case - on sanding it all down there was hardly a trace of rust other than one or two pinpricks.

Sanded it all down, a skim of filler just to level the surface and then a coat of white primer - just needs rubbing down and painting now. Looks like BXCs favourite ugly duckling (well, dirty duckling anyway) is turning into a swan!

Cheers for the piccies Paul, i like the dirt duckling line I've got a fair few more rusty bits that are out of view when the doors are shut that need doing, which i hope to have a better go at than before, the rust has kinda come back, so i've clearly not done them right Rear arches & one front arch needs a bit of tlc, but she's not looking too bad for a daily driver. Thanks to Paul for his help, he really is the master at sorting out bodywork.

Your rear discs & pads whilst not looking mint are perfectly fine, so plenty of time to get those bits for the rears & we'll get them done when they actually need doing. I reckon they'll easily last another year My rear discs that i got changed were in a hell of a state compared to your's, they started to break up & everytime i pressed the brake pedal there was a thumping sound from the back, now thats what i call knackered, haha...

We can do a full lhm change on your 17rd though, it'll probably need it as the fluid i emptied out when i bled your rear brakes was a bit dirty & it will hopefully make the soft ride even nicer once done

You're welcome . I think the rust that's returned in the rear door shut could either be rust that's so far down behind the weld seam that you can't get at it or it's coming through from the weld seam in the rear wheel arch. Next time, I'll clean out all the wheel arch and waxoyl it. Hopefully that might nail it. It might be an idea to change the LHM on my TGD before doing the brakes and pads?

Matt also used a bit of his Hi-Fi wizardry to sort out my car radio that had only been playing through one speaker. Apparently he moved the 'balance' control to the central position. It all sounded a too technical for me - but it's working fine now!
