Frenchness.

Yes, Frenchness as in bad earths.

Check the earth connection on the offending light. The door switches earth a delay unit don't they, not a direct connection to the lamps.

I'll have to borrow a multimeter from somewhere, but cheers for the heads up.

Did the lhm trick on the drv side front strut. Not too much crap came out, but did change colour a little bit, with a few bigger bits floating around....seemed to be a little quieter, probably only delayed the inevitable...

What was strange though, was the car was ultra quiet when i bought her, however, once i'd raised the suspension to high, thats when the strut groaning started.....

Fed up with the noisy driver side strut, so a trip up the M1 to sunny wakefield today, & she is now riding on a nice noise free 2nd hand strut with a brand new strut pipe as well for good measure....

Ken kindly sorted out the loose bolt on the starter motor, hopefully a few more miles of happy motoring to be had in orca

The noiseless strut lasted about 80 miles, it now creaks

Anybody fancy re-building some of my noisy struts????

, these were off a scrapper near Ken's, one's on the tzd, worked a treat, but this one's no blinkin good...

I need the other 2 struts from you for the Gti....i think i need more struts

Today i managed to fit 2 new headlights & indicators, looking quite a bit brighter now. Noisy strut went a bit quiet with the lifting up the gaiter trick, but its noisy again, so sprayed some more siliconey spray stuff on it again.

Picked up those struts from Kitch at the national, so if it continues to be noisey then i'll bang on one of those.

Tyres seem to loose pressure over a couple of weeks, so i've resorted to checking them weekly, bit strange, but not a major problem. I'm hoping to change the oil & filter tomorrow if the weather is nice & then the front pads which i've never done before, fingers crossed i dont cock that up. I guess if i dont slow down at the lights i'll know i didnt fit them right

Also purchased some Wynns engine oil cleaner, i'm hoping that it will really get the gunge out. I noticed that last time i changed the oil, it went black the same day after driving the car. I'm guessing that perhaps it hasnt had all the oil changes that it should have had during its lifetime??

Did the oil & oil filter, used that Wynns engine cleaner stuff, not checked the colour of the oil since driving the car, i'm hoping its done the trick & it should be clean, if not then i wont bother wasting £5.50 on that stuff again.

Changed the front pads, cheers to Dave who gave me some advice at the meet & for Ken who confirmed over the phone that i did need to change both sides, i was hoping to be a bit lazy, cheers guys. Now that i've done em, theyre so easy & thats saved me £45, thats what i got charged last time

So, oil £12, filter £5, pads £7 = Total £24 as opposed to approx £150 if i'd gotten that done at a garage, thats approx 1300 miles driving for free

makes you think doesnt it

Had a chat with a lad on my street, seems he might be able to help me get the TZD back on the road, cant wait, will have a go at that after i get back from me hols around mid August....

She does go well, pretty good acceleration, once your doing about 60, theres really no point in changing down, i just keep her in 5th & she picks up & easily does over a ton when required (on a race track only of course).

Just out of interest, halfords charge about a fiver to fit, if you were totally incapable, perhaps i should advertise & only charge 2.50 a pop

Car has been clonking at the front & blowing (presumed exhaust), £85 later & i now have some new exhaust parts, everything upto the back box replaced & a new right hand side ball joint. A nice quiet & clonk free car, hurrah

Changed the wheels over at the weekend to my winter tyres, used my new wheel bolt gun, seemed to work well & made it a bit quicker to do the job.

All set for winter temps & snow now, so come on, i'm fed up with preparing & not having actually driven on any snow yet on my special tyres

Looking forward to seeing everyone else on the roads struggle, whilst i'll just breeze past

Just got to fit the front snowplough blade & the salt spreader & i'll be the envy of everyone

Driver side front strut finally gave up the ghost on the way to work this morning

Warning lamp came on for low lhm, so stopped, popped the bonnet, poured a litre in, then spotted it pissing onto the floor.

One of the strut pipes had blown off, so the strut must be fucked, it has been knocking quite badly recently. So popped it back on, refilled lhm level & gingerly drove home, made it back ok so had to drive the other car back into work, so much for getting in early & missing the traffic

Rang local mechanic to see if he could fit a replacement strut, he couldnt remember having done one, so i said i'd give him a hand to do it. I just cant face doing it on the road in these temperatures.....

Got up at the crack of dawn to meet my local mechanic, followed him to work, 2 cups of coffee later i'm now sporting a replacement strut (courtesy of Kitch) & a brand new strut pipe. All is well, nice comfy suspension with no nasty noises, infact its rather quiet, not used to that

Only got charged £20, i did lend a hand & gave instruction

Next job was to go to local tyre fitters as the driver side rear tyre has been losing bundles of air in a very short time, my air compressor has never been so busy.

I was right, turns out it was just a crap seal between tyre & the corroded alloy, so thats now been sorted, £11.50 lighter

I think they must have put their prices up, i'm sure i only got charged a fiver last time. Oh well, it needed sorting....

Fingers crossed i dont have any more problems.

Car is due for an immenent oil & filter change, just need a dry day & i'll get that done, hopefully before xmas....

Still need to do an oil service, but its cold so i havent bothered, plus i'm that skint i couldnt afford to buy any oil, thought i had some in my garage, but alas not

Clonking has started up again, i cant believe its that replacement strut, so what else could it be
