Well it's all change in 2015, I have packed in my job at VW after 10 years, huge new site, huge target, new staff and new regime with lots of rules and regulations, more hours for not enough money means it's time for a change.

Plus I'm 40 and I'll let the newbies work themselves into the ground!

New venture starts soon, yes I have my own business!

Hi Andy

Actually I will be working for my old firm as there stock buyer and trade car disposals guy, but self employed (it will save me lots in tax) plus I will be overseeing the old used car site which is now empty as it turns into a general used car site to remarket (trade speak for selling the part exchanges) for older VW and non franchise cars we would have previously just sent to auction. The old nails will still go there but the nice low mileage stuff we will have a go at .

I'll be in charge of my own destiny and get to do it my way to a degree !

Good luck Tim. 60 hours a week for peanuts is a mugs game. Glad you've seen the light. Ironically, my Dad's just ordered a new Golf. :-)

Thats great Tim, well done you. I have been self employed for the last 20 years and its great being your own boss. Whenever iwanted a day off, i asked the boss, and he always said yes, every time!! You will be able to claim a lot of allowances against tax too. Good luck bud.

One word of advice Tim. RECEIPTS!! Keep them, no matter what it's for. Always handy at the end of the financial year. ;-)

I've a good accountant lined up, and as I will be using my own car/s I am hoping I can offset the insurance and most of the fuel against tax.

Well done on the Golf Mark, they are great value on the Motability scheme right now.

Any 'business' mileage is tax deductible, so you will get the VAT element back. Just keep all your receipts in a safe place for the years end. It's surprising what you can claim for as self employed. Creative accounting is the name of the game. ;)

Yes, the Golf is cracking value. Mum & Dad have ordered a Golf 'Match' TDI in Pacific Blue. :)

Er, you dont want to go and register yourself for VAT if you dont have to. All you will be is an unpaid tax collector. Only do that as a last resort if you have to.

I won't be paying VAT as I will be under the threshold, thanks for the offer Phil, I ordered some of vista print for £5, I won't need many really as I will be working for VW mostly but it's nice to have.

Good luck Tim. You have done the right thing . I changed careers at your age too and never ever looked back.

Be careful though with some of the advice.
