Inside of j119 started today, and has come up well but the carpet will need to be replaced as the nsr looks to have had a leaking battery placed on it as it's ruined, any one with a spare black one please let me know.

Also I am missing rear headrests and 5 of the buttons that hold the boot side panels in place if anyone has spares they will sell me?.

Now wearing a set of Xantia Steel wheels which are black it looks kinda cool but I am aware the engine although performing well appears to have a noisy tappet which is quite audible, I thought they were hydraulic but not sure. You may not know that this car recently had a replacement head when the waterpump seized and stripped the cambelt causing valve and cam damage.

Oops, I have rear headrests, forgot to put 'em back after back seat was down last. Sorry! Will drop off Sun, with other bits, incl rear exhaust :)

EDIT: 'Tappety' noise might be fan? Barry warned me it might need doing soon.

Hi Tim !

XUD's don't have hydraulic tappets

Valve clearances on XUD engines are set by using a selection of shim(s) thickness which are fitted between the cam-followers and valve stems (Where the clearances would have been carefully checked/set-up from new, therefore would need checking/adjusting on a head rebuild) to achieve the correct valve to cam clearances !

:)

Thanks Richard, it sounds like maybe the shims isn't right, I understand to change them you have to remove the cam etc? So will have to live with it.

Bit of progress with the Green Hornet (or goblin as beloved calls it), new head unit (Ipod connectivity is a must) and speakers installed, as is working glove box with lid and lamp! rear headrests refitted as is newly cleaned boot carpet.

Started first turn of the Key today and will be the daily hack for the next few months whilst the green Xantia is being sorted for the MOT at Barrys.

Dunno about ipod connectivity but there is a good deal on RDS Radios (Deckless) in Aldis at present. They have 3.5mm jack, USB and SD card inputs for your auxiliary devices and all for the bargain price of £34.99!
