Edited for accuracy.Mallion wrote:at Halfords they are a bunch of idiots who know nothing about what they are selling, have no mechanical understanding, and sell overpriced rubbish
What matters with aftermarket wheels is the ET (offset), PCD (pitch circle diameter) width (the "J" size) and the overall diameter.
Somewhere I have saved a web-page with all the ET and PCD requirements of most cars made. If I can find it, I'll put up the requirements of the BX, but I'm fairly sure someone else will know it anyway.
The ET and PCD are essential numbers to get right, otherwise they won't even fit on the car. If the diameter and J are the same as a standard BX wheel then it will definitely fit in the arches too. You can get away with a wider or bigger wheel, but some cars need a little bit removed from the wheelarch lip.
this might be a signature
still on alloys!!
hi ,has any one got a set size 5and a half J ,if you are willing to sell i could always get them refurbished, cheers Barry Mallion

i've 'squeezed' a set of 205/40 R17's under the car with bags of room and no arch modifications on the valver, i reckon with a bit of careful modification then it would be more than possible to sling 215's under, and no i don't mean chop the whole arch off!
Be wary of the ET and dont worry too much about the rest!

16v's have 6J rims, the GTi's have 5.5
Depends what you want in the way of alloys, but you can fit bigger alloys on them than people will give you credit for. I put 195/50/15 alloys and tyres on the valver with no issues at all.....except it made it ride worse. Kinda defeats the point of the suspension really!
