The Philibuster's BXagon steed: 'The Green Hornet' now sports BX trims. Meteor types off Kermit's TZD which he's breaking as a donor.

We have a set of TZD 'Z' trims too, but these look cool too...

Phil B tells me the trims have CX Leader stamped on the inside. Interesting...

(When I say interesting, I mean a tiny bit. We all have, I'm sure far more interesting things going on in our lives at the moment    )

Finally have some funds to get the GTi on the ramp and start to replace and repair... Rear arm bearings and new front struts, new spheres and the exhaust hanger section will be repaired and made good, and the hanger will be welded onto a plate and bolted to the boot floor - there's no way that bu•••r's coming off :D . New plugs and a fully synthetic oil change plus a thorough check of height corrector linkages etc. Plenty of lubrication and a pipe check. New front brake pads and new flexis (if needed) at the ready...

Oh and I've decided to get the best four (of my seven) graphite Speedlines professionally refurbished and shod with P6000's (or equivalent), releasing the steelies with their 185 Michelin 'Energy's for use by the Green Hornet 8)

Then, after all that's done and the car's riding like a dream, knowing me it'll be for sale - (only joking) No, this one is for keeps - I owe it to its previous owners...

After Sunday's trip to the Speed trials at North Weald, Kermit and I got talking. Well I did  - still banging on about a BX trackday car.

I think it will happen, but at a slow pace - maybe in time for the BX's 30th Anniversary in 2012...

A 16v is clearly the best way forward, but getting one that isn't shagged and rusted to f*** for under say, £350 might be just a little bit hard. It might be possible to economically extract a bit more power from an XU9 and lose a bit of weight giving a power to weight ratio of 190bhp:ton. (@170 bhp). That's probably conservative too.

The best you could hope for from a (remapped) 8v might yield 162 per ton (@140 bhp). So it's a sort of 'no brainer'. Let's see what happens.

The GTi's a lot happier now. Drove along a particularly bad bit of road near where I live. Much, much better.

It was nice and sunny, had the window open.

Could barely hear the sound of the engine over the rattle of those original Citroen trims. What dreadful items they are! They are in the proverbial bin (round the back of the shed) now. I can't afford to get the alloys ready and tyred up so it's back to the non-rattly after-market trims for now... Until I can get my TZD 'Z' trims from Kermit...

I'll ave them if they're going spare as they're original spec for the Meteor. Can wait till Stratford etc. I won't part with my TZD 'Z' trims though!

What does everyone see in the TZD style trims? I reckon they look naff...but each to their own I guess.

By the way Mark, were the ones you have originally mine? (Not that I want them back or anything!)

I have alloys but won't fit them until a) they have tyres on them  and b) they look like new. For that I will have to wait!

But in the meantime trims are OK IMO.

I want one of these one day. Maybe 2011... There seem to be a fair few to choose from: all €3-6k.

Hi Phil, are you really sure you want one!! After working on one,and a Bagheera years ago,I wouldn't touch another with a barge pole. Great if you are a contortionist to work on it in situ.(with my back, all I can manage now is a straight forward service.lol) Anyway,Nic and I got the 16V back together at the weekend, and fired it up. Runs OK,but still needs work for the MOT. I hope to do some of it when I get back from Florida at the end of April. Just managed to talk myself into another job too,and save a CX Safari from the scrappers.
