Just got the insurance renewal on both cars in. £907 for both BXs. Ha ha.

As expected it was higher than what I can find by shopping around, so I phone them (Admiral) to see if they'd 'price match', effectively.

Well, no. And what's more prices generally are MUCH higher than they were last year. GTi Auto valued at £600, 5,000 miles p.a. the best I could get with half reasonable credit rates (I pay per month - and less than £650 excess!) ... £326 (500 excess - NCB protection, windscreen, fully comp). Which is nearly £90 higher than last time.

The TXD on the other hand is coming in at £280 - and that's with higher annual mileage and a 250 excess.

Methinks now's the time to switch to TPF&T for the GTi maybe? Or phone Footman James/Adrian Flux?

I find TPFT is oftentimes higer than fully comp now, no idea why.
But yeah, insurance has gone up rather a lot in the last year, and will be again I fear..
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

In this instance it looks like the TPFT option for the GTi is the way forward: A saving of over £140 against the Fully Comp. I'll still keep the TXD as a fully comp policy as that's manageable - and what's more it's the car that will get the most use.

Insurance has risen :x Mine went up by £75 & i had another years no claims to make it 8 in total, absolute rubbish, so i told them i wont be renewing. Contacted work & with staff discounts etc worked out miles cheaper, so for a tad over £15p/m fully comp with excess of £250 for a 12k policy its not too bad, the whole price increase really makes me mad. Why arent the fuxxers that have accidents having their premiums rise expedentially to make them either give up driving or to make sure they don't have an accident? We'll see if the latest sorn or insured mllarckey makes one iota's difference to peoples premiums....

It's the paltry fines for driving without insurance that mean it's often cheaper to drive without and pay the fine IF caught. If the fine was (say) 5 times the annual premium it may make people think twice!

I asked further questions:

I have been penalised for being the victim of no fault accidents even though I never claimed against my insurance - although I did notify them. It's all down to 'driving history'. The first incident where my BX was damaged by a guy who skidded into it, and I wasn't in the car at the time. I got all his details and so on, and in the end his insurers paid me. Second time I was hit by a driver who failed to stop. Again, I obtained the insurance details eventually and they paid me. I notified my insurers 'for the record'.

I honestly will think twice in future about informing my insurers if I don't need to invlove them. The trouble is, if they found out, I'd face probelms should I need to claim...

Insurance. Shorthand for 'fuck you every which way'.

Get the GTi on classic insurance. It's 20 years old now. No reason why it should cost you more than £170 a year I would have thought. Doubt they'd cover the TXD yet though - I did manage to get The Green Tiger on classic cover though. Depends how nicely you ask perhaps...

Downside to classic insurance, as I've discovered recently, is that there's no going back. Over two years since I had a 'modern' policy, so I've no NCD AND an accident claim (wasn't driving, but it was my policy) and quotes seem to range from horrific to scandalous.

Oh well. Old shite it is for me then!

Years ago, my brother's van got broken into. As it only cost him about £30 to fix with bits from the scrappy, that's what he did. A couple of weeks later, the insurance rep called to ask why he hadn't told them about the break in (they'd found because my brother had reported it to the Police & the isurance company had access to the database used). He said that he'd just warn him this time but that they were in their rights to cancel his insurance & put him on a database of people who have broken their insurance terms

Tried Footman James for starters, but because the car's not garaged overnight, no dice. Tim suggested Lancaster. I'll try them...

Eh? That's odd. None of my cars have ever been insured as garaged, only private driveway. Maybe it's a postcode thing. Where I am at the moment is the lowest category apparently!
