Don't tempt me! It's not like I have nothing to do y'know I'll file that under 'nice to have' rather than a need, as condensation (like the morning after sleeping in it) is more of a problem than dirt. Either way, only one wiper would be needed as the view through the other window is obscured by the wardrobe, making the job simpler...Dollywobbler wrote:you might want to consider at least one wiper.

Re: Mat's BX Blog
I fitted the rear arm to the white BX last night, so that's no longer leaning. Just the cambelt to do and it'll be finished, or ready for an MOT at least. I thought that by buying something which had just failed the MOT would give me a clear picture of what work was needed before buying - not realising that 'just' meant 3 years ago...
And I might have an idea for a quick summer project A new engine for the mower! The engine it currently has dates from the 60s, and while parts are still available plus the engine itself is in good order, it's always difficult to start after the winter. There's something amiss with the ignition system which I just can't work out, and finding advice on magneto systems is less easy nowadays. Plus it can snatch your arm quite painfully when starting it with the pull cord.
While I was down at the agricultural/engineering suppliers yesterday I was chatting to the owner and it turned out they have a Honda diesel engine round the back from a failed generator. 9 bhp so slightly more power, I can run it on red diesel so cheaper to fuel, but the big plus point is that it's electric start. Just need to measure up whether it will fit...

Re: Mat's BX Blog
If you're after a new engine Mat, get yourself down to the Naval dockyards in Portsmouth before HMS Ark Royal is scrapped. I hear she's got some rather nice Rolls Royce 'Olympus TM3B' gas turbines on board. Now that would be a mower I'd like to see.

I thought the Ark Royal had been sold to a foriegn navy? I know a group wanted to buy it and submerge it as a false reef neer Plymouth I think to attract scuba diver tourists to the area but there bid failed.

Don't get me started! About as much use as a chocolate fireguard! It's like raising a battalion of infantry and not issuing the soldiers with rifles, only more expensive. Much more expensive. I thought the JSF was due to be launched 8+ years ago? Surely it must be close to ready by now

Re: Mat's BX Blog
Started reading up about it (well on Wiki). Over 100% cost increase on the unit price of them, and the USoA have ordered nearly 2500 already! Sounds like they might never actually materialise though. I guess they'll just have to use Sea Kings . . . oh . . . wait

Personally, I'd like to see a return to the cavalry charge. I thought it brought a certain amount of tone, to what nowadays is little more than a vulgar brawl.

I bet far less civilians would get killed if we went even further and only allowed pikes in warfare. Horses are a bit advanced and there's always a risk they'll end up in the food chain...
