Re: Mat's BX Blog
Sorry for interrupting...
I gave the van a checkover last night before we go away in it, and thought it might be an idea to drain off any water from the trap in the fuel lines. For some reason this is separate to the fuel filter in the engine bay, and is often missed when doing a service unless you're used to working on the vehicle. I'm not sure whether it's any more effective than a water trap/filter combined as I've never seen any water come out of it. Anyway, I was tightening it back up and the bloody thing sheared off Cue a frantic 5 minutes looking for a suitably threaded bolt to temporarily plug it with! Once I'd reduced the flow to a drip I had a rummage for something better, and fortunately found something suitable on an old filter housing I'd got in the garage - see, it pays never to throw anything away!
I also noticed that one of the coolant pipes was of chafing slightly; it looked like the factory clip still allowed slight movement so I protected it with a rubber sheet wrapped around the hose. A couple of exhaust rubbers had perished, and the rest were of similar age so I've bought a full set today for peace of mind. The oil change is due within the next 2k miles so I'll do that too.

Blimey, Mat, make your mind up! I thought you wanted help to reach 100 pages?mat_fenwick wrote:Sorry for interrupting...
Anyway, it sounds like one of those typical last-minute wobbles that always seems to happen just when there's a risk of getting smug about being fully prepped. Still, if you hadn't checked it, you might never have found out it was about to break...
You could have used the old seat cushions, Mat. And what's this about chafing and using rubber sheets?! Something you want to 'fess up to?mat_fenwick wrote:See, it pays never to throw anything away!

Re: Mat's BX Blog
Moving on from such smut everything else with the prep. seemed to go OK, and we're all set to leave this evening. We had a couple of decent (sunny but cool) days at the weekend but back to normal rain and ~10 °C now Really hoping for some warmth and sun!
In BX news, the white one is back together (still needs a cambelt) but for some reason the LHM and STOP light don't go out. Level is OK and it rises fine, so hopefully just something electrical. Red one is still clocking up the miles; done 1500 in the last month with no issues so should be fine for Scotland (that's cursed it!)

I don't suppose you may have disturbed the 2 plugs that go into the top of the lhm reservoir, that would cause the LHM & STOP light to come on?

Re: Mat's BX Blog
Earthquake in N Wales and Mat goes on holiday!! That's more than just coincidence.
I suspect Mat has been constructing some kind of deep earth seismic trigger device and is planning world domination.
You mark my words, there'll be earthquakes reported in France within the next few days.
