Is this the Disco that rolled down the hill?mat_fenwick wrote:I happen to rather like it too
It probably looks better than it is due to the new battery and spheres - I have a bit of a dribble too. Not enough to drip, or require topping up, but just enough to coat things with an oily film that makes my hands black. Time for another gratuitous engine shot though?saintjamesy89 wrote:That is an exceptionally clean engine bay
Space is getting a little bit limited in there now, with the LPG kit and winch controller!

Not forgetting the Sisu Nasu of course!mds141 wrote:Started life as a Buick design IIRC, then used by Rover and it's many subsidiaries, then TVR and countless kit car installations.
It's not the same Disco, although I would like to turn the rolled one into a pickup, or use the chassis in a 100" hybrid. Exhaust is standard, even with the original catalytic converters from the factory! I removed the cats from the last one to give a little more power, as when running on gas it easily passes the MOT without them. Now, they specifically check that a cat is fitted rather than just the emissions.

Looks rather nice, I like the colour but can't decide if it's green, brown or grey! I must admit to preferring the S2 disco's on looks (and the TD5).

I prefer these earlier Discos, preferably in pre-facelift form but Mat's does look rather nice - and sounds good too!
Neighbour has a Series II Disco with the TD5. Sounds great in a gruff sort of a way, but I find the looks a bit heavy. He's getting on for quarter of a million miles in it now and he's only had to replace almost everything.

Yeah, the colour is kind of unusual but I like it too - Willow Green Metallic is the name but does look brownish in some lights. Only 150k miles but very little needed doing to it so far, apart from the obligatory welding!
BX has been back into workhorse duty today, collecting slate slabs for a waterfall we're building in the garden.
Self levelling very useful!

Mat, is there anything you can't turn your hand to. Changing sphere's one week and building a fountain the next.

Re: Mat's BX Blog
Ha ha, thanks!
Don't know if it'll look any good, but we're planning a couple of slate slabs above the pond for water to trickle into it.
Living where we are there's no shortage of waste pieces of slate, so we just wandered up one of the spoil heaps and grabbed a few chunks.

Re: Mat's BX Blog
Always!
Tonight's job was to service the van before the holiday (exciting Friday nights that I have!) I know the saying goes that size doesn't matter, but surely bigger is better when it comes to oil filters?
Also changed the fuel filter and cured a slight oil leak from the oil pressure sender. The crush washer I had used was slightly too big, so I combined it with an O ring sitting just inside it.
The inside isn't quite finished, but better than it was before. Still need to redo the roof - the white coated hardboard I used a few years ago has sagged between the supports, so the plan is to replace it with some tongue and grooved panelling.
I put textured wallpaper over the plywood walls, then painted it. Makes it look about a million times better! Behind the 'kitchen' area I used a sheet of (purple!) perspex as a splashback. Staring to look almost like a proper campervan than a DIY job

Tongue and groove in a van is very funky. This is the inside of our old H van. T'was a lovely old thing (just horrible to drive long distance, which we discovered about one hour into our drive to Sweden. Via France.)
