Thanks all, now I know :D

I too am surprised how quickly LHM is said to deteriorate :o Still, all that pressure, small orifices and long chain crunching pistons, it's not surprising when you sit and think about it. Perhaps a yearly change would not be such a bad compromise.

On a related point, I guess Hydraflush will deteriorate much faster than pukka LHM; another reason perhaps, not to run it on a permanant basis...

Not so Jim as i believe hydraflush is not built up of the same chain type structure but has norrowly larger particulates. Hydraflush can be run indefinately in a BX, and i believe Pleides still have there original test GS which has been running only hydraflush for many many years.
