Its the piston that moves in the cylinder - and it moves on the fixed seal in the inner cylinder wall.

Then it must be the piston that has an imperfection allowing pressurised leaks at high setting ...
Interesting point Anders.
The rod is OK the suspension goes up and down normally - except it leaks badly at maximum height. It must be that the cylinder is holed and the seals only leak under the extreme presssure of the maximum height setting.

From past experience with these rear cylinders, I think you'll find when you get it out you'll find it has corroded away two thirds of the way down where it sits in the muck and 5h1t and is always subject to being wet. A good wire brush and you'll see the pitting and a tiny hole in the cylinder wall. :(
