Dipping

What causes that characteristic dipping (and corresponding rise once the brakes are off) of the tail when stationery at lights?

Car loaded or unloaded? All BXs, or just the current one?

All the auto's we've had do it Phil. Never had a manual box BX do it.

My answer on a postcard

is that keeping the car still when in drive requires quite a bit of braking force. This produces a higher than normal pressure within the hydraulic system so that when you release the brakes the pressure then drops rapidly causing the back end to sink.

And there I was thinking it was only the rotating action of the rear trailing arms when the wheels were retarded.

Could be air in the brake pipes, it gets in if the car has been run with flat spheres.

It can also be caused where the rear brakes are doing more work than the fronts such as with contaminated front brakes or corroded front pads/calipers etc.
