Hi All
Having met up with Phil on saturday on my way back from Barry Mallion's
Where i had picked up some new wheels and tyres for my TZD.
I have to say the enthusiasm and comitment to this project shown by Phil.
Is truly amasing, in Phil's office there is a large map of France with the route drawn in with a highliter
Everywhere there are bits and pieces to do with this event, It is what i can only describe as operation BXagon challenge HQ.
And as i will be codriving with Phil as the second half of the Philibusters team i am very pleased to say that his GTI auto looks absolutely the DOG'S Nuts.
The day for me was rounded of with a simple but very tasty meal which set me in good sted for my drive home to sunny( well actually rainy) Worthing.
If anyone out there in BX land is still hesitating in doing this event i can assure you that the group of people Phil Has pulled together to help organise this event will be making sure that it is a very big success.
A short thank you to Barry and his family for his cuppa on saturday morning it was very much appreciated.
And to Phil and his daughter for their welcome food and hospitality
Regards Kermit

In response to a query from a potential participant, here is a reminder:
I am just going to calculate an estimated cost for the run, but REMEMBER this is self-funded (what else?)..
As a rough estimate each TEAM has to cover the following costs:
Entry fee @ £20 per team member
Travel to the port.
Crossing.
Fuel.
Travel insurance.
European breakdown cover.
Hotel accommodation.
Sustenance.
Miscellaneous equipment.
And the above, for each TEAM will probably be around £1,800: that's £900 per team member to get together in the next year. Part of the way to do this is by getting personal sponsorship from family and friends.
Then, you have to help us reach our target of £10,000 (this will rise if there are more teams) for Cancer Research UK.
I will be trying very hard to secure:
Discounts for the crossing.
Discounts for the accommodation.
and so on. These might save three hundred pounds or more per team.
I hope this hasn't put you off!

THE ROUTE
I hope this gets the message across...
Taken individually each stage is fine, but the cummulative effect of the stages, given their peculiarities, in just twelve days will truly be a challenge. Stress this of course, when drumming up support!

A few items that may be of interest. I will get stickers of all these made:
This is a modified version of the main plaque incorporating the web address(es). The Viv la BX is there as a filler at the moment. I'm hoping that will be replaced by our main sponsor's logo, be it Michelin, Accor or whatever:
Obvious what this is (although it's not strictly necessary in Europe any more if you have a number plate with GB on it, but it's there if wanted):
This will be about 30 cm tall and is intended for the side edge of the rear window on a saloon or the rear side window on an estate:
For each front door (obviously each team will be numbered - either allocated or a specific number can be bought - for charity - but no 11,000,000,000 please! lol):

AN APPEAL
As yet I have some people indicating their desire to participate but as yet only three have paid an entry fee (i.e. put their money where their mouth is ) and one of them is me. My team-mate will, and I would expect a couple more soon - BUT PLEASE can anyone interested in taking part in this event, which will be BIG by the time it happens (it's gathering momentum now) PLEASE submit their Entry Form and/OR Entry Fee.
To reiterate: I will take PayPal and I will absorb the cost of the transactions personally. I do accept cheques (To P. Chidlow) and all monies will be held in my young daughter's savings account gathering tax-free interest (more grist to the Charity Mill).
IMPORTANT: Should any potential participant who has paid have to pull out of the Event, the cut-off date is 17th August 2009 for refunds.
What your EARLY commitment will enable us to do is present this with more credibility to potential sponsors.
So, please make the effort. We want 15 or more Teams taking part!
