OK, who have we got as Teams?

• Me and Phil 'Kermit': The Philibusters

• Andy

• Mat Fenwick

• Jim and Jon

• 'Citroen7', probably.

• Mike E and Chris

• Stuart Hedges

• I'm told a team from Classic Car Weekly

• Doc if he's well enough

• Charlotte - I think/hope?!

• Alastair Carter

• John Rolfe - He's in France: not sure if he's doing any of the stages?

• Mike Copleston - As above maybe, need confirmation.

• Jaba, John Baile - As above.

Have I missed anyone out?

Tim looks doubtful due to severe crunchiness in the credits department

Now, there are some luminaries on this Forum who I need to ask... which I will do as a PM flurry in the near future...

I also want a Citroen dealership or two to field a team, so if anyone is on friendly terms with their local one, let me know.

Hi Phil

I am going to pester worthing motors for them to enter a team as they were the first Citroen dealers in the UK and as such i think they should field a team and i will be pushing them to do so.
See you tomorrow afternoon sometime i will ring when i am close so you can get the kettle on.

Regards Phil 2 (KERMIT) :)

Hi all

With reference to the picking up of the GREEN HORNET.
All went very well the car drives great slight noise from gearbox at 70 in 5th but nothing more than i would expect with the mileage at 247k.
I may fit my gearbox from my TZD as that is ok.
Average MPG for the trip was 67.4 which concidering i had not driven it before i was very impressed with it.
On the first part of the trip from burton on trent to chelmsford it averaged 72 mpg. 8)
The rest of the way which included very slow and stationary trafic on the M25 ( the worlds largest car park) the mpg was not so good as you can work out from the overall figure.
From looking over the car there appears to be very little serious corrosion Some very slight bubbling in the usual places but no holes
As for the interior Tim has done a great job it even smells clean.
The paintwork has some laquer missing on the roof but it is repairable.
Altogether the car is very suitable for the BXAGON.
I will keep you all updated with the progress of the GREEN HORNET.
Also known as the Beast from Burton.

Regards Kermit :) :) :)

Glad she got you home Phil, I noticed it was frugal (did wrexham and back on £20) but you must have a much lighter foot than me. As you say it drives very well for the miles and has cleaned up well.

The secret is once you get to the speed you want to travel at back off the loud pedal until you find the point at which the speed remains the same but you are not opening the pump too much .
On a diesel the amount off loud pedal = the amount of diesel going into the engine.
Also where ever possible on downhill runs allow the car to go with your foot completely off the loud pedal as there is little or no engine braking on a diesel.
All these tricks i used when i did a delivery driving job in a 7.5 ton truck.
I allways got the best mpg figures.

Sorry if i am trying to teach granny to suck eggs but high mpg is possible.
There is one other thing this particular BX has the later fuel filter mounted on the thermostat housing this heats the diesel making combustion easier as the fuel being injected is warm and combusts easier than cold diesel.
Just a theory.

Kermit's verdict on the 'Green Hornet':

"IT'S BLOODY FANTASTIC.

Never have i been so impressed by an old car it goes like a dream.

However i think i will be fitting my gearbox to her before the BXAGON.

And my front uprights and drive shafts as they have had new wheel bearings and ball joints fitted. and my drive shafts are not that old either."

Any other Teams care to give us an update on their 'steeds'?

I sent an e-mail or two out recently to those on the BXagon mailing list (26 addresses on there) and included a note asking for a reply just to acknowledge receipt.

Now, out of those 26 I have received two replies in the last week.

How am I expected to co-ordinate this event if no-one responds to my requests for feedback? I was hoping to involve as many in the process as practical because I want all participating to feel they've been able to have 'their say'.

C'mom chaps and chapesses... I need to know you are at least receiving the e-mails. Cheers

:)

I can't speak for anyone else, but personally I've just got back to the computer which holds that email account for the first time in two weeks.

I am enthusiastic about this event, but I have a life too.

Hey, do you mean I don't?

Anyway, no probs.

I spend too much time in front of my computer - it is after all my work

I understand, Stu (and others who have a life). Didn't mean to come across as arsey - although I obviously did. :?

Actually, you could've just e-mailed me :)

I would love to know if anyone has obtained pledges yet.

I'd also like a phone number for you if you don't mind PM-ing or e-mailing me with one... It'll help when trying to arrange fund-raising activities in the spring/summer. Ta!

BUMP! :D

Seven months on and I can report that the total raised and paid in various forms to Cancer Research UK was £5,766.75. JustGiving contributions alone including £676.12 in GiftAid came to £3090.82. I will be selling some left over bits and bobs for the Charity at the National but only expect maybe an extra £40-50 for that lot (but it all helps).

Many thanks to those who participated and donated.

On another note, last Tuesday I went back to La Galloise and said hi to Les, his wife and Geoff and Lynn from Chez Dyna - but unfortunately missed John Rolfe, but left a greeting for him. Sadly it would seem they never received their certificates, so I'll have to send them again.

La Galloise is up for sale... Les et al are remaining in the area - but opting for a less busy lifestyle.
