Temp guage

Bit of a longshot, does anyone have a working 2nd hand temp guage that fits in the pod that all the diesels don't have? Really want to get one fitted & keep the TXD as original as possible rather than fitting an aftermarket one in an ugly pod.

I'm thinking the same but am considering fitting a low key one in the blank where the electric mirror adjusters go - ok it's not ideal but at least I can check the temp in traffic jams

If i can't source an original one, i'll probably just get one of those flashier one's that shows the temperature in better & clearer increments than the one you've put the link to. I've got one of those fancy ones in my tzd, swoosh i think it is.

So where does this fit in the BX, I can't see anywhere where one would be fitted?

Kevan, do you mean the non citroen one's? If so, it will be housed in a guage pod mounted to the right of the speedo pod nr to the window, it'll have to be drilled into the plastic upper dash. Hope that made sense?

No I meant the original Citroen ones, I take it from your post that Citroen fitted them to the BX but not diesels and you wanted to fit one of these original ones in your diesel?

If you carefully look at the speedo, its got some lines between all of the guages, you literally swap them out, so in the case of the diesel you'd get rid of the guages on the right hand side which are the lights of doom & slot in the temp one thats fitted to some of the petrols as standard

I think this one will work - the temperature gauge section on the right hand side should lift out and slot into your bx unit.

Handy to know, though i prefer the look of the BX one, but beggars can't be choosers

I don't want to buy a whole binnacle tbh for that sort of money. Was hoping someone would have a spare lying about, oh well, no rush.

Steve, the one you've pointed out (On E-Bay) is from a Pug 205 TD which only has the temp gauge, get a set from a petrol Gti 8/16 Valver or 4x4 BX and you get the oil temperature gauge too

That's why the Pugsters boy's are always after/on the look out for them like the ones I HAD from a GTi 8valve (Then you'll have the full set like Mat F)

Finding the whole instrument pod is probably the easiest way to go Matthew. When you find the gauge get in touch with me cos I've already done the research to find the right 'sender'. Oil temp and water temp use the same sensor / sender but they have to have the right resistance at 100 degrees C or it aint gonna tell you if it's going to blow.

It's fitted to the sump, so you need a sump with the extra threaded hole to screw the sender into. Common to several XU engines, so your search isn't limited to BX sumps!

I'm puzzled by the statement that the oil and water temperature senders are the same, as the ones I've seen aren't - the oil temperature sender has a larger thread although the thermistor inside may well be identical...
