I'm selling my parents BX Automatic as they are now too elderly to drive. It is genuine low mileage (have paperwork), and was in excellant condition when last used about 7 years ago!
Unfortunately the tyres have perished, but there is a garage about 0.5 miles away that could maybe fit some.
Anyone interested?? The car is J reg, with 23658 miles on clock & last MOT certificate.

That IS low mileage! Even beats mine. C'mon someone, there must be years left in the old gal!
No mention of price expectations though! And general condition? Any pics?
Ian - if you weren't so hung up on diesel I'd have thought this is a tempting proposition?

I get 25mpg around town (lots of stop start stuff) and a reliable 35mpg on a trip.
Now if you could find a decent diesel auto (for, say £500?) and this 16TGS costs, say £175-200 plus another £100 for bits it would take around 18 months to two years for the cost saving in diesel to make itself felt... (assuming 10k/yr) - plenty of time to find a diesel auto, I would've thought.
And another BX is saved - hoorah!

I'm in a very "calculating" mood tonight... so I'm going to question that!Philip chidlow wrote:Now if you could find a decent diesel auto (for, say £500?) and this 16TGS costs, say £175-200 plus another £100 for bits it would take around 18 months to two years for the cost saving in diesel to make itself felt... 10k miles a year in a 16 auto at 30mpg (25 in town, 35 on a run) is a total use of 1517 litres.
10k miles a year in a 19D auto at 45mpg (40 in town, 50 on a run) is a total use of 1011 litres.
Which is a difference of 506 litres. In todays fuel cost, that's the best part of £500. The £200-£300 difference in purchase price of the car becomes somewhat irrelevant in comparison. Even if the Petrol car were free, you'd only need to be driving it for a year before it would have made more sense to spend £500 on a Diesel one.
As always, condition (amount of tread on tyres) and amount of rent/ticket on the car are probably more important. If the "free" petrol car needs £100 worth of tyres, £180 of tax and £50 of MOT, and the £500 diesel car has all of the above, then the breakeven time becomes no more than a few months.

Taunton BX 16 Update
Thanks for the interest! I live near Cardiff (hence the confusion!) so I'll have to try and get to where the car is to take some pics! The inside really is pristine and the outside has no bodywork damage or anything like that, just some weathering as it's been under a car port.
If I had the time and more importantly the skills of you guys I'd love to return it to the road as I'm sure it's got miles and miles left yet...but I haven't!!
I'm thinking of around £200-250??

Just checking to see if anyone was paying attention! (Mind you I'd be surprised to see an average of 45mpg from an auto diesel BX).DavidRutherford wrote:Which is a difference of 506 litres. In todays fuel cost, that's the best part of £500.
But I get your point
So I'll be honest. I made a slight miscalculation
But who wants diesel when you can have petrol?
I've got myself a diesel turbo auto that 'only' does 32-35mpg (mind you it's a Toyota MPV!)...

To be honest, I was erring on the side of caution there. I'd bet you can probably get more. I seem to remember members reporting mid-50's average fuel consumption from 1.9D manual BX's, so I'd have thought 45 is easily achievable.Philip chidlow wrote:(Mind you I'd be surprised to see an average of 45mpg from an auto diesel BX).
There's one man who knows the answer for sure though. Where's Mr Hedges when you need a fuel consumption figure? (although his is red, and has been heavily polished, so will clearly do 2mpg more than any other diesel auto BX )
