I was meaning BX's in total. How many are left? We on here must know all of them by now. We've had up to 27 in attendance at rally's. There can't be many more than 50 BX's left on the road now.

The How Many Left website suggests 812 on the road, with 965 on SORN. Not that rare yet!

812? Where are they all hiding?!! Can't be that many left surely. I suspect the 'How Many Left' database isn't entirely accurate. :)

I don't suppose 'How many left' is an absolute guide to numbers of BXs still extant in the UK, but it is a good barometer. While BXs might not be that rare yet, in the context of the total number of cars on British roads - somewhere in the region of 40 million - they are still pretty rare!

Hell, if there are only 800 left then they are as rare as hens teeth!!

Far more Morris Minors than that!!

Actually, people who say that they are going to wait for a particular model are starting to piss me off.
50 or so valvers on the road? Christ, you havnt much chance of getting one then have you!!

I like owning and driving BXs, getting quite sad as i tend to drive my Mk1s more than the MK2s and when i get into a Mk 2 i keep trying to use the non cancelling indicators before realising ime in a MK 2. Maybe i should get rid of my MK 2s!!

Be proud and pleased at actually getting hold of and owning a good BX, be it MK 1 or MK 2,petrol or diesel, Mk 1s being like owning a motor as rare as rocking horse poo now.

I consider myself very lucky having both MKs but i can tell you, enjoy driving my Mk 1s best of all.

As times go on, i think choice will get less and less as to what is available.
OK, there will always be barn finds, but these will always require more and more work for them to become road worthy.

Spotted (from the comfort of my BX) a white BX parked up in Strood on Tuesday and yesterday, even rarer, a very nice white Visa Special in Rye.

Useless fact #342... That means there is one BX for every 300 miles of public road in the UK.

Andy, I'm not sure why it seems like you're getting upset about this?. Since looking for a valver since I signed up on here less than 1 month ago I've already seen a couple of examples that may have already recently sold, but shows they're out there.

My VW is one of 300 that were built, but I waited and got the right one last summer. Since buying it I've seen half a dozen others up for sale, of what would be about 150 left on the road since 1978. I would rather wait 1 year to find the right one and learn more in the meantime about the 16v than one turn up tomorrow and me not be fully jenned up on it and end up buying the wrong one. Been there, done that, and it never works out best for the wallet.

If I'm going to have a BX, I'd want it to be one that got my juices flowing, and I think a 16v would do that. We all buy cars for different reasons after all.

I think there's more chance of finding a valver than, say, a suitcase engined 14, or a non turbo 17. The go faster and luxury versions of any car will always survive in higher numbers than the lower spec or less powerful models as they will always be more sought after.

The issue will be on condition - valvers and other GTi models are more likely to have been thrashed, crashed, modified or knicked during their lives, while delux models have more toys to go wrong, and as they reach the age where they are being maintained on a budget, less of those toys are likely to work. Likewise diesels, which are cheaper for day to da running are likely to have covered a much bigger mileage. Finding the right combination of model and condition will get more and more difficult.

At one stage it wasn't unusual to find all sorts of DS's being upgraded with Pallas trims and interiors, as good cars of that spec were drying up. I wonder how soon it'll be before cars like 14's and 16 auto's in good condition will snapped up and turned into valvers and TZD's?

Thanks for the link RXBX - I hadn't seen that thread.
