Nice to see one bloke being honest Matt but women aren't generally fooled.

6 and a bit inches? Looks like the hedge on the drive is for the chop! My hatch fits with an inch to spare.

I'd just drive into it. It's a hedge, your car is stronger.

I really don't care much for my cars do I?

I thought otherwise actually - last time I saw your BX you'd obviously polished it so hard all the paint had fallen off the bumper...

True David. A few gentle "kisses" will soon reshape the hedge!

Sorry for yet another question.... Does anyone know how long the BX estate loadspace is with the rear seats folded? I am not worried about the exact mm's, a rough figure would do.

Thanks,
Rob

A BX Estate can carry: Five Morris Men, kit, tents, sticks, musical instruments and overnight bags

OR

Owner, fiancee, grandmother, suitcases, wheelchair and spare BX door.

Seats down: a freezer, with ease.

Or...

Rather a lot of firewood.

So much so in fact, that when I loaded up the Discovery to take the wood to our woodstore, the suspension looked like this.

Self levelling suspension FTW!

It's just over 1.7 metres on the flat.

Thanks for that. My dad had a bx estate in the mid 90's. He used to load complete snooker tables in them (with slate beds) and drive them to sw France. I think all in, it used to be about 700 kgs. i bet the rear arms on that particular car were knackered!

I collected my car yesterday. So far so good. It made the 350 mile journey home without any problem. The car seems very well looked after - the same owner for ten years and a complete S/H. He has also undersealed it every year since owning it. It's had the big things done (new rear arms etc) recently and has only done around 4000 a year since 2000. It has the TZ seats and an aftermarket sunroof. It did around 50 mpg on the drive home and rides very well. I am a bit worried about a slight shudder when pulling away. I was wondering if it is the clutch (although no sign of slipping) or an engine mount. Any advice?

I am pretty pleased with it. I think the 1.9D estate is one of the most useful BX's and this one will hopefully do me for a while.

Best wishes,
Rob

I agree mate, I think the 1.9D's are fantastic machines. Its no secret I prefer them over the TD's as they're easier to work on, more economical, more reliable and cheaper to run in general. Seeing as I'd buy neither for speed, I don't see the benefit in the TD's additional performance either.

The shuddering could be a worn clutch, or it could be slight contamintation of oil from one of the seals although I'd expect it to slip somewhat too. I've had the same issue on a Xantia I once had.
Someone once told me a mis-aligned clutch can cause a shudder, but I've yet to work out how it can be mis-aligned when the input shaft has to pass cleanly through the pressure plate, with all the external bolts on teh bell housing lining up correctly :?:

Either way, sounds a cracking purchase. "The estate" was also over-maintained and owned by the same person for ages....and it was the best car I've ever had.

I agree with Kitch, the 1.9 n/a diseasels are far more reliable than the turbos in my experience.

Cheers for that Kitch and Cavmad. I'll book it in for a check over at my specialist. Seems like it's going to be a good car though.
