Yes Greg, £1500 shipping. As said that was a roll on, roll off job where the car sits on the deck as opposed to being in a container but would be worth it to get the the right BX for you I expect.
Can't recall offhand which company it was but we do a bit of shipping at work so will try and find out which companies can do it.
Ps seem to recall it took a fair while (obviously) to get there, possibly two or three weeks.

shipping costs
Hello Cavmad (sorry about the slow take-up ; it's what happens in the Colonies, all that sun!)
Actually, it doesn't seem so expensive, although when you say on deck, I guess you mean ON DECK exposed to the ocean spray! Still, with a car cover??
...hope springs eternal

Quick internet search has thrown this up...
http://www.karmanshipping.co.uk/austral ... ralia.html
That seems to suggest £1700 at most for shipping and and 'shipping protection' but then there's a A$2250-A$2750 charges in Aus on top of that.
In today's exchange rates that seems to imply between £1246-£1522 in British money, so in total would be £3200 odd quid at worst.
Those prices are for container shipment by the way.

Cavmad's research
Goodness, you are thorough Cavmad!
Actually, those costs are starting to look scary! Fancy the Australian Tax Office charging GST on the total cost including shipping. Tax people are tax people, I guess.
It is starting to sound a bit too much to make it doable unless the car is a quite outstanding one with a very cheap purchase price, at least, that's from the UK, NZ could be quite a different story and we now have a free trade agreement with NZ and ASEAN as of today!
Thanks for your research Cavmad, I have saved that web site and will contact the Sydney person to see what he has to say.

Cavmad research
A bit over 900 quid doesn't sound too bad as you say, I'll check out the duty etc but if only we had a free trade agreement with Mother - that would be of course if Mother hadn't already dumped her family (us colonials) and shacked up with those Continentals!
You know, speaking of being dumped, google: The Queen at the General Assembly of Virginia 2008. There's a video posted on something like youtube but it's not; total hoot. Those Virginians still have a soft spot for Mother!
Give us a free trade agreement with the EU, then! he! he!
Thanks again for the research Cavmad

Royalist Virginians
Well Cavmad, I'm sure not for a republic in this country, even though the little elites here think it's not even a question, any more. Who knows what will happen here, but my point was that the Virginians sure seem to be nostalgic for the monarchy an'all!

import duty
Sorry for delay in responding Cavmad but I have not been monitoring things too often lately.
It seems that import duty is 10% and the GST is another 10%
http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4371.asp
Well, the costs are considerable.
