I'm sure that this is the unobtainable part that the garage finally managed to source in Germany, so it shouldn't be an issue.Sounds like the anti-stall diaphram
I can see I'm going to have to pay out to have these repairs checked (tappets too) if I can't find a gasket problem with the techniques suggested.

Unlikely - several places in the UK still provide carb recon kits - pull the vacuum pipe off and sniff it - very easy quick test to be sure.I'm sure that this is the unobtainable part that the garage finally managed to source in Germany
