did the original owner sell it for twenty quid as he thought the buyer was going to save it and use it? if thats the case the buyer was not a very honourable man. the original owner could have drove it into a scrap yard and got 150 quid for it . some people................

Thats the one Todd ,toddao wrote:Is this Stuart the Morris Man/Real Ale fan who use to be the owner of that brown Mk.1 'Snoopy' that got rear-ended? If it is him, I am very surprised that he didn't offer it here first. Once upon a time he was very involved here..
Stu was goind to advertise it here and on BXP but he was at work and I think put it on there infranet first ,
the buyer evidentally got to Stu before he had the chance to post it on any other forums , I believe he was desperate to shift it quickly as he needs a reliable car for work and has only one parking space at home and has a replacement car coming

Nope, definitely not that one as it was grey and I bought it.. needed a new headgasket though but it's still going strong.. cost a bit more than £20 though and didn't have those nice speedlines...Is it this one... http://www.bxclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic ... ght=stuart ... if so, then it's a different car as the retro rides one had 170K on the clock not ~110K STeve
Think that retrorides ad is not public anymore...

Erm, yes.
Susan Donym and Mat Fenwick have pretty much summed the situation up in their posts above.
I was intending to advertise the car here, BXProject and at work, for £1 to a restorer. I just happened to place the ad at work first and it sold immediately. I truly believed he was going to fix it up, but the evidence suggests otherwise...
He's in full possession of the knowledge that I paid £195 for it two-and-a-half years and 35,000 miles ago.
It's a generally good car with a lot of minor(ish) faults and if you are someone with the skills to sort it out, I'd recommend offering him - oh - let's say twenty quid?
In other news, I've finally figured out how to make this forum work without having to go via a bloody irritating web-based proxy server, so you're stuck with me again!

I'll miss the hydraulics, and no mistake.
But just imagine you want a car that's as new and low-mileage as possible, with cheap insurance, smallish without being a supermini and good on fuel, for £2,500 or less.
It's Xsara, 306, Focus, Fabia or Civic. Trust me - I've spent many hours on this!
Out of those the Xsara is a clear winner for me. Familiar engineering, comfortable, spacious, cheap and well equipped.
Plus I've driven loads of them and I know I like the way they drive, which is preferable to a leap into the unknown.
