It was a brand name that quite quickly became a generic name for the product class, eg hoove, or biro. That above factory, home of the worm drive clip, is just down the road from me.

They had several factories in Medway - not least the one built on the site of a temple and tower belonging to a religious sect called the Jezreels. Dunno what they believed in but they disappeared, so might have been uplifted by aliens or God. :wink:
