The general consensus seems to be one of suspicion and I wholeheartedly agree. I get the impression the seller is a chancer and I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole at that price. What really grates is that he seems to think he's doing people a favour by offering it for sale but can't be bothered to market it other than with a few unsubstantiated claims about mileage and condition. The clincher for me was the comment about leaving it to stand for another 6 years if he doesn't get the price he's asking! What a kn*b!! In another 6 years it will be well en route to a mouldering heap in the long grass, and how much will that make him?

Grrr!

It's the same as that guy a few years back who had a BX with a brand new bodyshell, but unfinished.

The only difference is, his was stored in a workshop, but same dumbass mentality though.

Hi Ken, I take it your referring to 'ruffgeezer' boss's BX (Bullwinkles Garage) as in discussed in THIS thread ?

Also probably/still available :-
ruffgeezer wrote:Are there many differences between a mk1 and mk2 shell?

Only reason I ask is we still have a shell in the back workshop at work, it's had most of a k plate diesel built into it, however it was never put on the road as that identity so would perhaps be a better option?

Also I'd say it's been stored/stood exactly where the photo been taken as you can just make out the Green algae growth on the front and rear bumper below the the Black bumper inserts
Could well be true as the tyres look to have settled in the mud in that position.

Storage outside can sometimes be better than garaged or inside, for continued durability of the shell/joints as I know of several good examples of garaged cars that have quickly rotted when brought back out into general service. The proviso of acceptable outside storage of course is that the car is stored on a hardstanding away from the proximity of grass/mud. This one isn't and I believe lengthy field storage was a cause of symptoms on the Hurricane range in the first place, so this is double trouble.

RxBX - you're like the Inspector Clouseau of the BX Club. How the hell do you find these 'historic' threads? :D I remember that one with the new shell too. Was a price ever discussed? It would be a great thing to have but think of the hours required to build a 'new' one from it!

If you have way too much money to spend on a low mileage 80s car, I say you go back in time one day and bid on this:

Apparently, Mark '16v' Skywalker aka mdsc3po is back in town. :D I think that's a jolly good idea Tim. He could give us the low down on whether it's weak or unique - I'm dying to know!

Fancy it Mark? - WB btw!

That's lovely- Great '80s retro ride.

At £3800 that's a lot of fast car for the cash too.

If anyone wants me to go and have a look i'm able and willing(just about).I don't think the description matches the car going by the pictures. However OEC is a Lancaster plate designation my old Uno was KEC so i would imagine it was sold by John Wilding local Citroen agent in Morecambe. I will contact the seller and try to arrange a viewing. Regards Mark.

Shame Montego Turbos are so bad really... And I find it interesting that a car with slightly dodgy side skirts and MGF wheels can be called completely original. Annoyingly quick, but they really are not very capable cars. One interesting fact. To combat the reports of dangerous levels of torque-steer on early cars, the factory 'made significant changes to the suspension setup of the car'. What this actually meant was 'we turned the boost down'

As for the Hurricane, I don't think the price is out of order, but the way the car has been advertised is. Worth a look if Hurricanes are your thing... You might just find that it is a complete gem. On the other hand it might be a dog, but you'll never find out if you don't look.

If someone could find me a valver with this mileage on please

Tempting, but low mileage ain't everything. I'd be worried about the suspension as well everything-else-mentioned-so-far if it's been stood around that long

If the seller polished the car up and stood it on hard standing (and 'forgot' to mention anything about it's recent history) he'd have had a few sniffs by now I reckon.

The other thing to bear in mind with these apparent low mileage cars from just the speedo reading is that the speedo's were sometimes changed. Not sure how common this was but on my 1988 valver the speedo had been changed at somepoint and IIRC my first 16 TGS years ago had to have a replacement as it stopped working...
