Yeh true but as i say i wanted to do the job today, especially when i had it chocked up with the wheels off blocking my garage :D
It is a bit weird, the sliders seemed ok. Both pads were down to next to nothing on one side of the car and to 5-6mm on the side where the spring clips were missing :?
Maybe the fella i entrusted it to last time to do the brakes just didn't bother changing the offside ones

the springy bits are just anti rattle springs,
the calliper slides are the posts that the calliper slide on, although if the wedges are dry/rusty this can stop the pads slideing,

yep i think citroen call them wedges they hold the pad in the calliper,

i usualy clean and copper slip them and all the points the pad's contact the calliper, except of coures the brake disc

Well ,weirdly again ,on the side that the pads had worn down to a mm the wedge plate was stuck fast and took a while to remove, and the other came out easily :o Oh well ,don't suppose that matters ,it's how the pads move along it that counts and it was stopping some how despite the state things were in

sometimes the auto handbrake adjuster mechanism sticks too.
This causes the pads not to return immediately thus causing faster wear.
A quick look under the rubber cap by releasing the spring clip will see if it's dry or not.
I release the cap clean out any dried grease squirt a bit of easing oil in there re fill with grease and replace the cap.
Usually becomes fully free within a couple of days

no Phill is talking about the rubber dust cover on the back of the calliper, were the hand brake lever spindle goes through into the rear of the calliper, it tends to become seized up,

this will usualy wear both pads on that calliper about the same,

also the hand brake cable being fractured were it runs round the susp strut can hold the hand brake on a bit,

No that is the brake bleeding nipple! he is refering to the complete rubber backing cover of the caliper.

Anyway, i had a quick look underneath with the torch last night and popped the covers off, the mechanisms were in very good shape with no corrosion ,only a little grease so i slapped some more in.
