Exhaust System BX TXD

Job done and well I will reserve judgement on if it was done well or not until after a few drives and next fill up.

Basically they replaced the rear section splicing and welding under the fuel tank

What I now have is straight through with one silencer at the rear and slightly wider outlet. It sounds no differant but then the sound of the diesel engine drowns that out anyways

If it stops raing for long enough I will get a photo of it. One thing I did not have fitted at the time was the spare wheel, and I am hoping that this larger muffler is not to close to the tyre.

Job worked out at about 75 quid so cheaper than factory spec for sure.

No...and thats the bit that I am cautious on. Putting faith in the garage knowing what they are doing. Performance wise it does feel a bit better on the acceleration what that does tofuel consumption I will test out after 100 miles or so on the last fill up, should have that answer by the end of the weekend/early next week.

One snag though is my driveway entrance is quite steep and now I have joined the rest of the vehicles that scrape the underside, in this case my exhaust.

You could always raise the suspension to stop the scraping

I dont actually like this new system!

Its noisey even the engine does not camoflage the noise which sounds like it has a hole in the exhaust. Not having the expansion chamber seems to be the cause of that noise. As for fuel consumption! Well after 100 miles the first fill up seemed a bit heavy on juice. But I need to do a at least half tank to confirm this.

Talkng to a few so called exhaust specialists they do not even have citroens listed let alone the BX. Looks like might have to see what secondhand one I can get from the wreckers.

It might be more to do with the rear box making the noise, its a different size & i guess the internals are slightly different as well, so it could make it louder

Perhaps you're just used to petrols which are quieter & infact your diesel isn't actually all that noisey for this model?

The exhaust boxes are called "silencers" or "mufflers" dependant on where you come from, if its designed to have two and now has one its bound to be noisier as theres less to "silence" the noise.

As mentioned before my 16v had the middle box removed and a link pipe installed, the difference was huge in noise, but not in power, so much so if I had used it as a daily I would of put the centre box back in as it was deafening at high speeds, but it sounded awesome under hard acceleration.

If I were you I would stick a middle box in and see how you get on.

I took the beasty for a longer drive than normal today! Above the sound of the slooshing water on the road and grit from all the roadworks the exhaust sound was tolerable.

Last night I spoke with the mechanic and his reasoning for one silencer/muffler or what ever you want to call it, was the cost.

Performance wise today I did not realy notice the loss in fact I swear acceleration is sharper and when I went into the servo 205miles on 18.47 litres does not look like economy has been compromised. In fact I think economy is actually been enhanced!
