I just looked under my car, and the height corrector is not behind the subframe, but on top of it somewhere (was too dark to see really).

Discoil. By leg do you mean "strut/hydraulic ram"? As there is one each side and they're connected via an anti-roll bar, just one could be causing this...Car tries to go to drive height, but instead the fluid is forced to pump up the spheres. When the pressure reaches a critical point, strut frees, and its straight to the top. HC realises, and then it drops. This however, if the struts are fine, could be down to a sticky HC linkage too.

Although I have not done anything yet, the car has fixed itself, height corrector is not stuck anymore. Maybe the warm weather. but I will still have it greased by my garage next week. already arranged. They are not Citroen specialist but I trust them as I have used them for many years. I said that I will print out the instruction above and give it to them.

The garage has fixed it for free, now height corrector and the jubilee clip on steering rack is back on.
But for my next Mot they said I should look at the calipers and the front shock absorbers are leaking. Surely people on this forum calls them front struts.
must research into this now

The front struts leaking is probably nothing more than the rubber strut return pipes cracked. Pretty rare for the strut itself to be leaking as normally at that stage they are completely shagged.

What he said!

LHM has a horrible habit of looking worse than it actually is and staining the underside of the wheelarches to give that illussion of stuffed strut to the unknowledgable non citroen mechanic. 95% of the time the repair is so simple and hardly costs anything as to be overlooked by them.
