I think that's a lovely looking car; original trims, contour mud flaps, original central locking plip, someone's obviously really cherished it and the mileage is pretty good too. It's got to be worth 700+ of anybodies money?

I saw it a couple of weeks back - it's a solid car - but I said that when I saw it over a year ago too before the chap who owns it now bought it from Chalford.

It's got just over 100k on the clock - it's tidy despite the dent he added to it. I'd say it needs a slight tune up but otherwise is mechanically sounds. All the leccie bits work.


My judgement when I saw it was it was a £900 - £1000 car.

I think he put it on the bay because he's nudged a gatepost with the front n/s wing so its not quite as pristine as it was

I did have a stupid mishap when I got out of the car on my way back from La Vie En Bleu. I opened a gate and forgot about those lovely devices called handbrakes! Luckily I was only a few inches away, so just creased the wing. I've reloaded the photo of the damage on the ebay listing, so it is now visible to all.

Its a great car, but time for a change.

Identical to my old Gti, which i've never seen since & the new owners put a private plate on it BXI something or the other, so i can't check to see if its on the road or not.

Funnily enough, i posted my car on this site & for the same amount of wedge, & i got £950 which i thought was rather good considering i'd bought the car for a lot less 4 years earlier. So zero depreciation, only appreciation

The key thing why I've posted this up within this thread as I thought it was the best place for continuity/closure as you will see after reading thro' my post !

I got a call late this afternoon from my friend who towed his sons car into SIM'S-METALS which he was scrapping due to a H/G failure !

The call was to tell me he thought that he'd spotted a silver/grey BX valver in the scrapped cars which had just come in which had a Green Audi sitting on its roof !

He thought it had the normal steel wheels with GTi plastic wheel trims fitted and he said he'll do his best to see if he could get/buy the wheel trims as we all know all the Bull$hite 'Elf and safety $hite' that these end of life Scrap-yards operate a policy where they will not even let take a wiper-blade, badge or wheel-nut off anything that's been weighed in

Rather than the traditional vehicle breaker/dismantlers which are getting harder to find so at least some good/used parts get a second lease of life !

However when my friend told me it had the reg. plate of 'BXi' but could get quite close enough to get a better view of the whole reg. plate after flatly been turned down with trying to at least purchase perfect wheel trims (Which he thought they were) he got even warned NOT to take any photos of it (as they noticed that he'd got his 'i phone' in his hand) and that if he did so, he'd face being prosecuted

Anyhow, I managed to get down to SIM'S just before the closing time to see if I'd have any better luck

No chance just the same 'Ole Bull$hite' and I even wore my Toetector safety shoes and put on my own hard-hat and 'Hi-vis' jacket (So they couldn't bitch about that) as its been mandatory to wear in these places even just to drive down with a towed in vehicle whist your on their premises just to unhook a towed in scrap vehicle !

I did my best to try and possibly come back tomorrow or when ever (After they'd de-contaminated the vehicle of fluids etc) so as just to buy not the wheel trims (Which my friend thought they were) but the Silver 'Speed-line' alloy wheels and stud-bolts but it was still a big 'No No'

My final polite request to the staff in office/weigh bridge was 'Could I have a quick closer look at it please' and that request got turned down too (As I couldn't quite see all of the reg. plate too from the office) but I can confirm that it was definitely BXI **** (Four characters after the BXi) and that the colour WAS definitely the Platinum Grey metallic (Gris Dolmen) and from the (Distant) assessment that this was not a valver but in fact a 1.9 GTi as it had the pram handle rear boot spoiler fitted with no additional body-kit mouldings or 'C' post with 16v badges fitted (Just the black GTi as in the photo /\) !

So Matt (if you can remember) if you sold your GTi to someone possibly South of Chesterfield, I fear that this is possibly the same BX ?

If so, its now knocking on the pearly-gates of 'meeting it maker' to be turned into a new fridge or washing machine in a few months time, but for sure whose ever this one last belonged to its another one lost and gone forever

Oh just to add a little more insult to me on my interest in this one of the staff said to me "It's a pity the fork-lift truck or crane drivers have gone home as I'd get to them to lift it up off the ground and then drop it from a great height and then get them to smash the roof in with the jib which I'd would have allowed to watch from a safe distance" (what a bunch of fecking to$$ers)

I replied that it wouldn't be the first time that a scrappers 'who hated Citroen BX's who actually filmed this being done and then joined up on the forum to make the posting' !

I then said 'you guy's just don't get it do you, when enthusiasts go to great lengths and expense to keep these wonderful vehicles going' !

So just before walking out of the office (In disgust) I told them that there's a Citroen car show called the CXM @ Little Horwood, this coming weekend which they could go to which then possibly they'd understand why folk have a passion for these 'Green Blooded' vehicle rather than the over complicated crappy Euro-boxes which are on the roads today !

I hope I can make it to the CXM but as funds are low with the constant flood of bills, that may not be possible now (As I was hoping to go with Paul296 and share with the fuel costs but he's too busy to go due to more demanding commitments ) so I'll have to see if I go it alone in the FOCUS if funds allow !

Just for ref. when I was tracking the BXI reg. plates which led me to this posting of Matts as I initially thought it may have been the one Malcolm refers to (BXI 6992) but on checking with the DVLA's vehicle enquiry that came back as a Diesel model !

Kevan, Just to clarify the photo /\ and in my last post (Side shot) is of (H162 DVK), the one that Campbell appraised which was then F/S on E-bay !
I posted the photo from Campbell's Flickr link merely to show off the colour (Platinum Grey metallic [Gris Dolmen]) which is the same as the one that's been scrapped and couldn't even get close enough to be sure of the reg. with photographing being prohibited too !

So its NOT the same one that my friend spotted at 'Sims Metals' @ Derby, (Note the one in the /\ photo has wheel trims ) the one that's awaiting to be cubed has the Silver Speed-line Alloys !

As to your question on the additional sill tread plate, this maybe have been a Citroen accessory or or even a generic after addition ?

I suspect someone may be able to confirm this (Possibly Tim or Paul) ?

My Gti had really nice conditioned speedlines fitted to it, i wonder why it was scrapped??? I bet it's my old car, it had the best suspension out of any BX that i've ever had, what a bloody shame. I bet it needed a bit of welding & they decided to get rid, so much for selling it onto a citroen enthusiast

Well Matt, from what I could see from the weigh-bridge office was just the O/S end a slight bit of the Rear (Which I could just see BXI **** reg. plaste) and I can confirm from what I did see, I actually did think how nice almost pristine the condition of the O/S Speed-line Alloys looked !

So its all adding up that this was probably the last sighting of your beloved GTi that you once owned

As you state what a real shame that the last owner never gave another lease of life to an enthusiast by placing an ad. on Gumtree or an E-bay listing

Probably another idiot who got fed up with the car because of some reason & then decided that it was the least amount of effort to just scrap it. Even if it became a spares car it would have at least have kept others alive. Those alloys were in v-good condition, now i wish i hadn't sold the car with them. From memory i think the the tyres that were fitted were Yokohamas, they were virtually new as well
