Seat wear is not always indicative of the mileage, if you do lots of short journeys you will be in and out of the car more times than someone who maybe sits in the seat all day, plus its down to the individual and how the sit etc.

Shame theres no service history asides the MOT's, but I think it will be a good buy!

That might just be the brushing of the pile creating a shadow rather than wear. Looks like it's had some recent fuel issues with new fuel pump and in-line filter fitted.

Hi everybody,
I am not that familiar with the BX 16 as now I have a TZD and before that I had a 14. The Meteor looks gorgeous! I was just wondering for those that know. Do all of the BX 16's have automatic choke? What are they like on fuel? On paper on a long journey they are more economical than a 14. I am not expecting anywhere near TZD Turbo economy, but maybe somethig comparable to a 14? I tend to use the rev range much more in the TZD than I did in my 14 because of all the turbo lag. The 14 from 30mph onwards.could hold top gear most of the time. Thanks.

Ive got a 1.6 tgs meteor, I love it but it do's have issues , my fuel economy is terrible but I think its running rich , mine was converted to an electric pump because the previous owner couldent get on with starting it and kept flooding it. they all came with automatic chokes but some may have been converted to manual

Hi Graham

The only real achilles heel with a 1.6 petrol BX is the blasted solex carb!, if set up correctly it can be fast, flexible and surprisngly frugal. The trick is to get one that is set up properly or find someone that can do it. A manual choke conversion is a good idea if you can find one or to swop to a weber.

Ive got two with this carburettor on and both run great, although one starts easier than the other, Ive had lots of 1.6 and 1.9 petrols and you get "use to there foiables" and how to start them.

That looks a beauty and lovely mileage, if it were me I would look to buy the car on its condition and mileage, the carb issue is can be resolved if its present on this car, you never know it may be fine.

Does annoy me that the French seemed to forget how to make carburettors in the 1980s. My Pug 309 (with the old Simca engine) could be an utter pig to get started at times. The 2CV very rarely has any fuelling problems at all.

The steering wheel is the same in my Meteor and I get that 'brushed' look with the velour seating. Mine clocked up 75,000 yesterday.

Thank you for the answers. The 14 I had took a lot of cranking on the starter when it was hot to get it to start. That had a Solex carb but obviously with a manual choke. The TZD will be going shortly regardless, but do I replace it with a 16 Meteor that is the question. I was looking for TD ZX but now I am torn.
The TZD has been a brillaint car but it has cost me quite a lot of money with one thing and another. I want to pass it on to somebody while it still has some life in it. I do 500 miles a week. It had done 135000 when I had it and now has 184000, so it needs to retire to somebody who does not do alot of miles :)

I guess it depends on what you will use it for, if high mileage is the order of the day maybe a ZX TD would fit the bill better, that TGS looks to have been cosetted most of its life and done little miles so not sure if whacking 20000 miles a year on the old girl would do it much go.

I tend to disagree Tim. Using a car heavily like that will not necessarily be a bad thing. Look at how all the cars behaved before, during and after the Challenge. Most cars benefitted from being 'used'. I would say, given good preventative maintenance and regular servicing it'll be OK. In fact be better for it.

Your possibly right Phil, you know me, in my ideal world I would like all BX's to be cosetted, driven sparingingly and garaged every night and polished every weekend but thats not reality. You could buy both, the ZX for work and the BX for weekends??? :wink:

My TZD has certainly thrived on using it every day for the past two years. The only things that have gone wrong are mainly due to its age. Suspension pipes and such like. One rear cylinder which had rotted through. Radius arm bearings(they had been done incorrectly before :( ). Blasted water pipe at the back of the engine. Radiator. Bits of welding.

The only thing that worries me slightly about the 16 is the fuel consumption. Although I don't drive the TZD particularly carefully I still return mid to high 40's mpg wise. If I drive a 16 very carefully I might be able to get low 40's average I guess. The majority of my mileage goes on driving from Haleoswen to Grimsby and back at the weekends to see the other half, Which is a 280 mile round trip ish. Mostly at motorway speeds which the TZD loves.
