I don't think it will be low mileage. For the recent MOT's I have had, your looking at less than 100 miles between them. Still passed similar to your 1.6.
I expect setting the machine for Cat or Non Cat will only amend the pass mark but did they use the correct setting? Also, did the car get up to temperature? If it was on the ramp and then started and measured immediately, that could be it. Was their machine working correctly, of course, you would expect it to be. All obvious stuff but you never know.

Re: Rich running BX 16 Valve
Yeah I’ve read that may be a cause. Not sure there is a way to test it though looking at it, I can’t stick the multi-meter on it with the plug in place. Can check The plug is getting voltage and and earthing properly.
I cleaned all the throttle body already although it wasn’t bad really. Flaps open and shut fine. There is another sensor in the TB so gave that a clean.
They aren’t too expensive, so might just buy a
new TB position sensor, swap it and see what happens.
Cheers

Re: Rich running BX 16 Valve
Not sure, I’ll definitely mention it has no CAT next time, just in case it makes any difference.
It was only a 10 minute drive to the MOT so possibly it wasn’t up to temp as it was a pretty cold day as well. Wasn’t watching so not sure when he did the emissions test, will get him to do it first after I’ve given it a long run before hand.
Thanks for the ideas!

Re: Rich running BX 16 Valve
I’ve read the flash codes off my ECU today.
Assuming the codes are correct here http://www.cardiagnostics.be/-now/PPS20 ... 0codes.htm
Then I’ve got these codes in the memory:
43 Detonation Sensor regulation
13 Air Temp Sensor
Anyone know where the air temp sensor is located please?
And what’s involved in diagnosing the detonation regulation? I’m guessing that’s to do with the knock sensor? Although it’s not showing the code for the sensor itself. I’ll order a knock sensor anyway.
Cheers

It's integral with the airflow meter.bx16v wrote: Mon May 31, 2021 6:53 pm

Knock sensors are fitted to models with Motronic M1.3 from 91 onwards.

Re: Rich running BX 16 Valve
Check the wiring continuity on the AFM plug.
Wouldn't be the first one I'd seen where the wire had broken inside the plugs strain relief. Looks fine, but no connection.
The connector can be bought new, I think PoleVolt stock them, but then you might as well wire all the way back to the ECU.

+1 on the AFM plug wiring. Definite weak point.
Thanks for the tip on the Polevolt tip, mine died a while back and I’ve got a temporary solution at the moment but having a proper connector would certainly be neater
