I thought that was the exclusive domain of Austin Rover? I think every car I had from BLMC had a brown interior with brown tweedy seats - the only notable exception was the ADO16 - 1300 with black PVC seats. Even my minis had some tweedy herringbone pattern seats.

You must of had the luxury model then! My 1979 850 had brown vinyl setas with non adjustable back rests! Povery or what!

A 1984 Special Edition Sprite fitted with a 1300 engine and a 1986 Picadilly with an 1100 engine fitted.

Both counted as probably the most fun I have had in a car with my trousers on. Unreliable (the Sprite ate points and condensers for breakfast and had a Ducellier dizzy, so no breakdown company kept bits for it - in fact I fitted qick release grill pins to it to change the points in less than half a day!), Noisy, Cramped, Uncomfortable, Rusty as f**k but like driving a Go-Kart to work every day - I loved it.

Of course I was younger and less chunky then.

You forget the obligatory sheepskin seat and steeringwheel covers to go with the brown interior. As standard on most MkII Escorts I saw in my youth

I've even driven an early GS Estate that sported these quintessentially 70s style accessories... I've got photos somewhere. Now reincarnated as Rob Moss's immaculate green GS "Chevronics" Van.

Only my Mk 1 MiniMetro had a sheepskin rug on the rear seat - and that was in the days before Mrs R became Mrs R and was still living with her mother and we had to go out for our "entertainment"

I have never ever owned a steering wheel cover

What is the point of them? Answers on a postcode please....
