You're quite close with that statement, as the C25/Talbot express/Peugeut J5 Diesel engine was all-but identical to the CX diesel engine, which as Ken says is a development of a very old engine indeed, as such it's really rather nice to work on (I now own 4 of these rather large lumps.)Ian_Fearn wrote:Correct me if i'm wrong but isnt this a variation (or the same engine) of the old CX lump??I think they put this engine into the C25 van as well as various Peugeot/Talbot vehicles.
In this case, the car engine migrated into the van.
With the 2445cc engine, it's the other way around. It was initially designed for the Peugeot boxer/Citroen Relay van, and when Citroen wanted a more powerful diesel for the XM, developed this van engine for use in the car. It's very noticeable that this engine never found it's way into the Pug 605.
Even reviews when the engine was new said that it was powerful, but very rough and not economic.
