Have to disagree with you there Billy, surely the idea of this club and its members is to keep BXs on the road, a few hours with some new piping which as we know isnt that hard to fix or expensive would see a nice example roadworthy again. As for the rear wing, alot of that will pull out and its up to the owner what he wants to do with it.
Its not all down to pounds shillings and pence.
Club Car up for sale!

No it's not but how far would anyone want to go restoring a car that's a) not rare and b) in poor condition?
Short MOT, not driveable, hydraulics leak (and how much does that cost to repair if you can't do it yourself?), dented wing that will need a proper job doing (again how much if you can't do it yourself) or just carrying on looking crap, the chance of being pulled over every 5 minutes with the dent in it and the fact that by the time you'd got it all sorted you could have a road worthy one.
Breaking it would mean you'd probably save another three or four cars (or more) and as much bandied about you can't save them all.
Money might not be everything but you'd need an unlimited amount to keep taking on cars that will take all your available dosh.
I don't mean that as any offence to BackinaBX incidentally but eBay is a buyer's market and for cars like this there's usually only one economic fate. If someone buys this to do up then good on them but what are the chances? Personally speaking if I'd won it it would be on top of the pile of cars down at the metal yard now minus any bits I could give away or sell on eBay.
I've never find piping easy to fix and wouldn't want to take an octopus on, ask yourself how many other non-BX owners would? That's why it's a scrapper.

Fair enough Billy I guess I see bxs in a different way to you mate, im not saying its right or wrong but its what I enjoy doing, take the 16TGS ive recently aquired it was also scrap fodder being a relativly unloved 1.6 petrol with intergalactic miles on it,
Needing some welding and fettling for its MOT, I had it given to me (thanks colin) and I could have driven it straight to the scrap yard or broken it up and made myself a few quid but with a few hours work its now Moted, valeted, taxed and will hopefully carry on for a good few more years, all thanks to the members of this club who offered me the parts I needed.

All true, but you were given the car, so it cost you nothing to start with.
The cost of the MOT and tax is neither here nor there, sonce whtever car you're driving will need MOT and tax, they are disposable outgoings like brake bits / tyres etc.
It's fine to have a view that all BX's should be saved and made perfect, but this is a small club, and by definition most of us have BX's already, some of us have saved a few of them, as have I, but I've never made a profit on one of them.
To the average jo on the street, they are cheap transport till they break, then they are scrap. We may be passionate about cars, but to the majority, it's a tool to get from a to b, and when it becomes economically unviable for that tool to continue it's purpose, then it's the scrapper for most. Thats just life.

Very true, but its the only BX ive ever got gratis and like you when I count up how much ive spent I wont make a penny but its a hobby to me. I see it as a shame to see any BX, and quite right we cant save them all, trust me if I had the space and the cash I would be doing!docchevron1472 wrote:All true, but you were given the car, so it cost you nothing to start with.

Gotta agree with Doc and Billy. Aside from the fact it nearly looks like a Hurricane, theres little going for it. Not to put a downer on it as a car, but unless someone specifically wants a TZD that looks like that, theres little going for it.
Personally I'd never buy a car to weigh it in. Its alot of hassle and I'm not sure you really make any money out of it.
I've made a profit on a few BX's over the years, so can't complain at them. But I've only rescued them purely because they were good cars that needed help. The two most recent were the valvers I did. They're a rare car and there is still a market for them, all be it a small one.
I got the 16RS free recently. Can't see a profit being made on that one....I just didn't want to see a much tidier than average mk1 sit there and decay.
BX's get scrapped everyday, but its not an issue. Parts are still easy(ish) to find and values are low. Because they're, they get scrapped. Its a circle.
Alot of people kick off over valvers being broken up for Pugs. I've stopped a couple in the past like I say, but I've no problem with it really. Its not my car thats being broken up, and its someone elses choice/opinion. I might think they're misguided, or naive, but hey

Yep I made a couple of quid on the one I sold mulley, but tahts about it, the money was poured straight back into getting the 16v roadworthy again. If I sold that for £2000 which I never would I wouldnt make anything but who cares!cavmad wrote:I thought you made money on one you got cheap and MOT'd Tim? I don't think I could make much out of BX's myself (though I have on a couple) hence why I tend to stick to more modern cars to earm a crust.

Duno what it's like oop narth, but the price for scrap cars varies almost daily down here. Couple of weeks ago it got as high as £95 a car, last friday it was £60.... Go figure.

Per tonne de-polluted. Prices do vary though (daily) and it's knowing the best time to go and the best yard to go to plus knowing what not to let them have when you bin itKitch wrote:You only get £80 a throw don't you? Or have I been misinformed?
It's also probably the reason there are less sub-£100 cars on the bay at the moment, why piss about listing stuff when you can weigh it in and have done with it?
If I posted up all the decent looking cars I've seen at the metal yard more than one person on here would be shocked. Big ones are the ones to take (obviously) hence syuff like Granadas, Rovers and XM's are very popular.
