Yeah I'd agree Ian - it should make up for the extra sluggishness of the 4x4. When I had mine I loved the handling, but hated that you had to plan accelerating and overtaking several miles in advance. Mind you mine was knackered anyway...
Sticking a chip in a standard GTi would do practically nothing unless cammed and played with. When you start looking at the injection system, cams, blueprinting, gas flowing and balancing then you'll see bigger returns.
