Right! Just returned home after viewing the "old bird"!

On first sight she really does look to be a lost cause, paintwork dull and flat everywhere, rusty steelies poking out from behind the non-matching trims, interior VERY grubby, with a few rips in the drivers seat, cracked windscreen, lovely pink bumpers, etc., etc. However.....she does have quite a few saving features!
Although rough, the paintwork is all original, and would probably come up quite nicely with a good afternoons work! Similarly the bumpers and other pink plastic!
Not a single dent in ANY panels!!!
All 4 Front to Rear pipes replaced (receipts to prove)
One or two small rust blisters beginning to appear on rear door shuts.
The boot floor has already been welded, pretty well, it seems.
Engine bay is dirty, oily, but pretty solid. Engine sounds sweet enough, and clutch action seems light and OK. There is a small weep from one of the HP pump outlets, but just a poor union seal.
All electrics work fine, including both front windows and the heater blower!
Sunroof looks to be in need of a good strip-down and lube, as it works, but needs a shove to finally reseat itself in place!
Central locking is OK, with working plip.

All in all....I AM still interested in this car!! I feel that it wouldn't take much to get her through another test, after fitting a new screen.
There is quite a bit of surface rust under the back end, where the rear spheres have completely lost all their green paintwork and look like they have never been touched in the cars 135k 20 year lifetime!
That said, the suspension rises quickly and efficiently, and there are no groans from the struts. Rear arm bearing look to be OK on initial inspection, as the wheels sit in a nice upright position.

There is no MOT, and Tax until the end of August. The seller asked me how much I thought it was worth, so I told him that he would be very lucky if it made £100. That seemed to agree with his valuation!
He said he would rather it go cheaply to someone who wanted to "save" it rather than simply crush it!

It appears that I have some competition from a guy named Andy, who has been bidding against me so far! I am NOT prepared to get into a bidding war for the car, but I am prepared to go up to around £85-90.
If the other guy wants it that badly, he can have it!!

Watch this space!!

Well......after a lot of soul-searching and head-scratching, I've decided NOT to buy this 'old bird'
I had the highest bid at the end of the auction (£62), and had set my maximum bid at £80, but the Reserve price wasn't reached. The seller, a thoroughly decent chap who had basically bought the car just over 12 months ago with full MOT and done nothing to it except drive, has offered to sell it to me for £90...which I did give some serious thought.
However, the cost of a new screen, before even thinking about anything else it might need, leads me to think that it would be a bit of a waste of money.

If anyone else is interested, I can supply contact numbers for the current owner / seller. Just PM me! The car is in Skipton, N.Yorks.
