I was thinking ( yeah I know, doesn't happen often ).For participants who have got quite a trek on their hands to get up north, you could pit stop at my house. I'll put the kettle on and allow you to have a break.
I was then proposing to use the A6 through Kendal and over Shap towards Penrith, as an alternative to more monotonous motorway.
There is a cracking stretch of road between Penrith and Carlisle, essentially the old route up to Scotland.
We could then hop back on to the M6/M74 as far as Gretna and then back onto the B7076, which despite being a minor B road, is in fact quite a decent stretch and will lead us nicely towards our first overnight stop at Hoddom Castle.

That sounds like a cracking idea, Mark I've often thought about taking the A6, but often am in too much of a hurry to make it further north. Means we'll miss out on Tebay services though...

Re: C.C.C.E. 24th June - 30th June 2013.
The drive on the A6 will, hopefully, make up for missing out on Tebay visit.
Some cracking bends, especially the approach to Shap summit.
Sweeping right hander, followed by a drop and then a left hander, leading to the climb, to the top of Shap itself.
It's a regular run of mine on the Firestorm. Reminds me of the 'corkscrew' at Laguna Seca. No knee down action in a BX unfortunately!!

Re: C.C.C.E. 24th June - 30th June 2013.
I was thinking an L-reg RRC V8 if she'll let me buy one. I find the notion of it being a support vehicle a bit of a misnomer though, they don't make em like they used to is fortunate because the old ones are shite (which is why i want one).mds141 wrote:Disco 3 commercial as a support vehicle Vanny?
I'd rather like a new-not-quite-out range rover, but i don't think they'll lend me one!
On the route front, dependant on time, i have every intention of travelling up to scotland without using the motorway, and probably stopping off in grassmere on the way.

Re: C.C.C.E. 24th June - 30th June 2013.
I'll pop into the printers tomorrow and get some guesstimates for sticker set prices. I was thinking of 1 larger sticker, for bonnet roof etc and 2 smaller ones for the doors.
