I believe it's about that point that you tell the neighbours to "Foxtrot Oscar". What the bloody hell has it to do with them?

They think they own it, they're always using it and shifting cars around (for no reason sometimes) which means I rarely get chance to use it.

Edit: it's a shared drive ...

Off to see this BX again tomorrow, if all goes well and I can get the price down I might have a nice bx and some cash left over to sort the accumulator and struts out with. (though I'd like to do whatever I can myself)

If I end up buying it those trims are not leaving Surrey. Local bin can be their new home.

Walked away from the car again today, the front struts are definitely shot and when we went to test drive it the indicators decided it was their day off. The battery light remained on while the car was running/driving and the rear windows opened but would not shut.

Seller claimed he would have the indicators fixed if I bought the car but he would not take an offer of less than £435 and I just lost interest because I already have experienced trying to deal with electrical gremlins.

I'm not going to see it again.

Rear windows will be down to worn switches....quite a common thing. Battery light is possibly a similar problem to your mate Tourist, theres a break in the circuit somewhere.

Struts....agreed a PITA although by no means uncommon on them now...the newest BX is 14 years old. But it sounds like you did the right thing to me, I'd have walked too.

There are plenty around and another will surface shortly that's in much better shape. It's a buyers market.

Yeah. It was less difficult walking away this time because a lot of things had put me off. I'd have considered his lowest price further but after discovering a nice amount of problems we didnt even notice the first time and considering these on top of the accumulator and front struts (which were sticky and did indeed knock when trying to move) The indicators packing up was the last straw really I just couldnt trust it after that, especially since he still wanted over £400 for it.

Had there only been the struts and accumulator sphere needing attention I probably would have bought the car for the £435 he was asking for ... however as Boxwolf said given the extra problems it wasn't worth it in the end.

It's a nice car, good service history, many new parts (alternator, starter, etc etc) but considering the work that needed doing we walked away, which was the right decision.

Given that it was a J plate, that's a given.

Its back.

http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/ww ... egLetter=J

Looks like the discussion with the seller over the value of the car sunk in somewhat, as its now listed at £50 less. Not intending on any further visits, as we know pretty much everything thats wrong with it - but if its still not been sold in another couple weeks I might call him up and offer him £400* again (is that too high, considering the condition?) :?

I get the feeling he might start swearing as soon as he hears my voice again though, considering how pissed off he was when I didnt buy it the second time 8)

Tell him you'll drive it away for £300, cash. With any luck, seeing as you're the only interested buyer that will tempt him, because garages can't have cars hanging around for too long. He'll be wanting to shift it now (hence £450) so you should take advantage of the fact that it's not selling.

We know what's wrong with it, £400 is too high, but £300 would be a good buy imo.

Its easy to say from here but you've done the right thing and going back now would certainly give the idea that you're desperate and thats a bad thing to display or even give any whiff of to a seller.
That car if its got the S/History you say its got would be worth a punt on at the right money (but if its got all that then why all the probs?) but that would be a good way down from where its at now. In all honesty if its very nice its probably only worth £500/600 max with a full MOT and tax and no probs. Second hand car values are rubbish at the moment so why should the BX be any different?
If you ask me he's seen what some are going for and assumes his is worth the same and wants to make a killing.....well let him make it off someone else and not you....you never know it might just come straight back on at a price thats more reasonable as soon as they realise they've bought a pup.
If that car gets relisted again at a price that would allow you to put it all right and still be within the value then thats when you go back to it....assuming its got no corrosion problems to add to its list.
There will be others, they pop up on here all the time and thats probably a better place to get it from than some greedy B on Ebay or the like, you just might have to wait a while.
