ah James! you bid £180 more than me. Looks like it's gone to its rightful owner. Good luck with it. Does look like a nice one from the limited pics.. and he didn't even show off the body kit which i think makes these cars look great.

quick update guys went to collect the bx today and im afraid i returned with out it for a number of reasons really i know the car is old but it was totally not as listed or how he discribed it

4 tyres bold
blue smoke on start up and tick over
tappety on start up
no water in header tank
a large burn in the passenger seat
the drivers side bolster was very worn ive owned 3 bx,s with over 100k and ive never had a worn bolster
rear wheels leaning inwards
rear bumper not on properly
and a other few minor things

the fact is he told me the car was mint no faults at all and i wouldnt be disapointed ..................... well i was so i walked away

guys this car will be up for sale soon so please look before you bid it really is not as tidy as he makes out .......... in my opinion its had a hard 88,000 miles and if its been garaged all its life like the seller said the garage,s roof must be missing

And my search continues.............

You have to be SO careful with ebay, the way the advert is written makes you think what kind of seller it is.

Bad luck James, hope it works out ok.

I knew my gut instinct was right . He had agreed to sell it to me and remove from ebay but kept giving excuses why he couldnt remove it. So i didnt bid anyfurther. But to my surprise he rang me this evening saying the "guy who won it" couldnt complete on deal now so i could have it at the price we had previousely agreed at.? I just knew in my guts he was not been straight about it.

well the seller told me the car was mint so expected a half tidy one ,i know 640 is not a lot of money for a 16v and a 1989 car is old now but the cas was far from mint with less then a months mot too it would make a nice car im sure but if you have the time and money but i dont have the time and i was so gutted how someone would try to sell a car totally different to how he told me the car was on the phone email etc

when i asked for pictures he never sent pictures of the drivers side which made me think ............... and today i saw the drivers side was the worst side

richard if you decide to go for the car take this advice go look and drive the car dont buy it blind also take some jump leads as it really struggled to start today and he said he never had any (even tho there was a car sales garage in the same unit as where the bx was )

Sorry to hear that one! £500 would be a fair price now given all the work needed. I think it\'s still got potential to be a really nice one, but the ph2\'s are more sought after so you might never get a return on your investment if you know what I mean? It\'d have to be a keeper.

Keep looking though mate, the right one will pop up eventually. Matt H has got two.....who needs two!?

I'd be worried about the lack of history and evidence of care with a rattly motor - may be cured with a long overdue oil change, but if it's smokey as well I'd be banking on pulling the head off and hoping the lack of coolant in the header tank isn't down to cracks or porous head!

If a car looks right and has no history, that's one thing - one that smells a bit fishy and looks a bit fishy you would want to get for a bargain price.

I know what a rebuilt head on a 16V costs, and it ain't cheap!

Our phase 1 16V needed work when we bought it but we allowed for that in what we paid for it. Reckon ours is worth £2k in its current condition. If we ever get it painted up to a decent standard then it'd be worth a lot more.

They are properly rare now.

I bought mine as a bit of a basket case. Though it's only got 90,000 miles it had been sat for eight years outside. And it's been a bit bodged in places.
Because it was local and I didn't have to trailer it anywhere I bought it, firstly as I got sick of watching it get more and more coated in moss and secondly that I saw it as my chance to own a 16v, even if it was at the lower end of the scale.
I had an opportunity to trade up to a much cleaner later version with A/C and catalyser ( much much cheaper to tax in D) but I just couldn't abandon my old wreck that I'm really attached to now.
My feeling is whichever one you find you'll get hooked and do what's necessary to keep it going.
Todd

I noticed, but wanted to tie the 2 listings together so that nobody gets caught out.

Hi Mike, No worries it's actually best to keep a re-listed item all under one post (For obvious reasons) !

As I wondered what happened to the 14th Feb listing/sale ? So when I looked in the sellers FEEDBACK :-
polite and helpfull seller but car was not as discribed so i walked away Buyer: Member ID wammyanddims
Also note that in the 14th Feb E-Bay listing :-
E-Bay Seller wrote:Imaculate Car, Only had one previous owner. 1st to see will buy. Can be collected in person or can drive to location to view with a small fuel charge.

Can take cash on delivery/collection or via pay pall.
I am a machanic myself so veichle has been checked over and is a great bargain to any one who no's there cars.

Any info required please send message and will get straight back to you.

Happy Bidding :)
Note ! The Luvelly spellin

Now in the CURRENT listing:-
E-Bay Seller wrote:THIS CAR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION FOR ITS AGE. IT HAS NO FORMER KEEPERS MOT RAN OUT IN MARCH COULD MOT AT EXTRA COST. MILAGE STAMPED UP IN SERVICE BOOK. ONE SLIGHT TEAR IN DRIVERS SEAT , ALL SUSPENSION WORKS CORRECTLY VIEWERS WELCOME TO COME AND LOOK CONTACT PAUL ON 07857360733 OR 0151 430 6716.
The vehicle seems to have NO previous owners now, for some strange reason :?

Still looks a nice car, when MOT'd and with a bit of TLC should make someone be the proud owner of it, (But personally I'd go to view before placing any bids) it may need a new front bumper as the grill/bars adjacent to the N/S driving/fog lamp look damaged (photo #8 ) !

:)
