My Dad worked at the local LR dealer from 1983 to about 2004, and there seemed to be a fault common to every vehicle they launched during that period - the tailgate didn't fit!

I think if you check now its still the same! I am told they line the door up and then drill the holes!

If it has holes to let the water in, then the same water can drain away quickly. No-one ever expects a Land Rover to be dry or windproof, do they?

Yes, they never did manage to spin the marketing like the rest of Rover group mind. When the 800 was launched they made a big thing about how they cared so much about the cars they built that the doors were hung by hand, unlike the competition. Apparently the truth was that the tolerances on the bodyshell were so wide that it was the only way to get the doors to fit!

Still, it could be worse - Trabants were made with all the doors etc. over size, then on assembly they ran a cutting disc down all the joints to get them even!
