Another point. I think, for me it is the BX that's important, not the track-day aspect. I know there're much better cars (on a budget too) for 'the job', and the BX isn't an ideal track car. But that isn't the point. Take a BX and have a bit of fun without either losing licence, getting fined or having a collision with an innocent (or stoopid) 'other' driver. That's the deal.

And even if it was just to be 'difficult' I might continue down the 8v route.

(OK, not yet... I'm still undecided!)

Agreed Phil, I like the irony of making something perhaps not ideally suited into a track day car. In fact that's what appealed to me about the idea of a diesel BX. Or how about an estate? I wonder if the estate shell isn't as rigid as the hatch, at least with the hatch you have the boot floor lip to contribute to stiffness.

Oh and (darn the loss of the edit button) I think I have the ideal here; 16v bought for £400, and it's a phase 1 so it looks like an 8v </smug>

I was coming around to the same thinking - a 16v Ph. 1. I sold one for £400 earlier this year - do'oh!

But, if I was being honest a GTi is still in with a chance as they are relatively cheap to buy in the first place. Even a very good one can be had for under £400.

I might even end up with a Visa GT/GTi/Trophy/Chronos (as if!)- who knows!

BTW a 1000 Pistes Visa went for €25,000 the other day!
