Tim,
PM sent,
spoke to garage briefly there, but need to call back re the TZS

i've been through a couple of major jobs on my current one, so i wouldn't want to do that again, but this one sounds like it's been well looked after. The only thing that spoils mine is pretty nasty crankshaft knocking round town when warmed up, which i'm wondering what i should do about.

If you look at "how many left" it shows the decline year on year.
Yes I agree MK1's are certainly very rare these days and are in a league of their own, I also agree you very rarely see any on the roads on a regular basis and they are deffinately declining year on year but they are still currently out there and my point is that anyone who is CURRENTLY looking for a BX doesn't need to go for the first one that comes along and possably regret it when a preffered model comes along the following week.

Quite right, but if a really nice example does show up that isnt your 1st choice , then it would be prudent to snap it up if its ticks some of the boxes.

It does, although it uses oil on a run. I'd like an 'as-new' one i guess at some point, although this one is good for the kids and hauling duties.

Sorry this may spiral this thread out of control now, but i really like this:

That's a stunning XM, Max. Considering it's condition and top-notch, it's not at all bad for the money in my opinion.

Erm, sound advice until it throws an end or spins a shell...

Can be done in the car with the gearbox off but frankly less hassle with the engine out which isn't a particularly difficult job.
I have zero patience for your tedium.

Sounds like a weekend job with a borrowed garage and engine hoist and someone experienced on the phone or nearby. What would a garage charge -- prob around £600-1k for a complete overhaul?

I think I'll just get another car for longer journeys. Now why did I sell that XM? I miss every car I've ever had.

Roverman wrote:Chris, I can set up a new thread if anyones arsed, but seems sensible to keep this one going to me.
not required. That was my point, the original post related to spotting a BX for sale, said car has now been bought, but the threads continued, I have no problem with that. If someone mentions another BX for sale in the same thread though, so what? If you want to mention what colour xoxks you're wearing, thats fine too.
RXBX, I'm ure forum members are savvy enough to be able to read and work out whats going on..

I shant be attending the CXM rally no, or Stratford. I have larger piles of scrap metal to weld..

All the main and big end shells can be done with the engine in, and the gearbox attached, although if you're going to the trouble of changing them, then it's a good time to change the rear crank seal, and for that the gearbox must come off. But doing shells is not a bad job, easy afternoons work.
Assuming the crank journals aren't buggered..
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

thanks Doc, not for me it's not!

I guess i'll cross that bridge when i come to it.

The noise is at mid throttle lifting on and off, or coasting, or more noticeably while clutch is slipping pulling away. I don't know too much about the different bits, but i imagine from the sound it is where the piston rods meet the crankshaft there is play, does that sound reasonable?

This should be in the technical section, but i don't want to fix it yet i'm just musing.

hmmm, main bearings rumble, big ends knock, usually under load..
Are you sure it's actually the crank?

She had her first wash in many a year last night, you could hear the paint sucking the wax out of the water!

Oddly enough it now looks even flatter, althouh the wheel trims are silver again, (I had to use a very strong scrubing brush to shift the gunk).

Oh and the dash now lights up, theres a bill in this history from 2009 for £65  to replace dash bulbs, seems the only did the dash pod itself as neither the clock, display panel nor the fan controls had any ilumination!
