A ran a BX 16v as my only car for about a year in '08-'09, then again this year for about 6 months. Also due to my age I paid more than £1000 a year just to insure it/them.
I don't actually have much money, but I have even less sense
Do you live on your own ?
If you live with someone else who has another car, then the BX is not your only car.

I would, however it seems a little extreme to sell her car simply to prove a point on an internet forum.
I really would have no qualms about using it as my only car - in 105,000 miles (and no breakdowns!) with my current BX there has only been one instance where I couldn't use it due to a problem. That was when I hit a rock on our drive with the sump, and made a fist sized hole in it. Hardly the fault of the car, and I had to phone up for a lift into work as although my wife owned another car, she was using it.

You must be the only BX owner who is able to say that. Were you really using it every day (without getting into any other vehicle in the drivers seat) ?
Yes, maybe not every day at the weekend but I know what you mean. The only times I got into the driver's seat of another vehicle was by choice, not necessity. I have had the luxury of a back up vehicle at times, and have used that luxury when I've chosen to do some work on the BX and spread it over a couple of days rather than rush it. (For example, with the sump I chose to get the (aluminium) sump welded back up which took a few days, rather than strap up the A/C compressor (mounts onto the sump) out of the way and fit a spare steel sump I have. I could have done, and would have had to if no backup vehicle but I didn't see the point in making work for myself).
So far(!) there has been nothing needing doing that would have prevented me from using the BX - maybe I'm just incredibly lucky? I can see that spares availability will be the dominant factor in years to come though.

Thats because they concentrate on proper cars that can be driven by the masses.
I love Honda's but back in the day you couldent get recon engines etc you had to buy a new engine from Honda costing thousands and generally Honda parts are more expensive than VW so its swings and roundabouts
